What to plant in the run

I was also thinking of some vining squash (something very prolific) that the base are is covered with chicken wire to protect it. That way it could get established but the ladies could eat the rest as it grows out. I am guessing that it would get plenty of fertilizer so it would try and keep...

What to plant in the run

Any body have suggestions for plants that we could plant inside the run to attract bug and make it look nicer but that the chickens won't eat. We could fence them off till they get good and established. I was think knock out roses should work.

    Losing eggs

Half the birds are 2 and the other half are 1. There are feathers in the coop but not a ton. I know they are or did moly because they replaced the saddle feathers from when we had a rooster at te beginning of the summer. I just thought it was odd that they all do it at the same time.

    Losing eggs

So for the past few weeks egg production has completely dropped off to the point that there aren't any. I have 6 birds and haven't gotten eggs in weeks. I am thinking something is getting them any ideas what could be getting them? It would have to be small enough to leave the chickens alone but...

    Help processing chickens in Texas

We are in central Texas and have about 15 birds that need to go in the freezer. Anyone know of a place to take them to be processed? I don't have a plucker or a scalding pot so 15 is a lot to pluck.

Butchering older birds - is it worth it?

We make chicken spaghetti, king ranch casserole, or some other dish like that with our older birds. Yes they are tougher but I normally put them in a pot for 4 hours or so cool and then shred. Shred will help take out the stringiness.

Lost two full grown chickens yesterday

After a little searching I found the site where they ate the EE. Nothing but feathers and wings. From the predator list looks like a cat of some kind. That's not good cause cats are really hard to catch in traps.

Lost two full grown chickens yesterday

One was a Minorca and the other EE. Both were some time after 6 pm but before 10 pm. I saw both yesterday around 6 while doing things in the yard. I only saw EE around the coop and saw where it went through the fence. It took the bird over the bottom strand of barbed wire?? This is 8-12" off the...
