my husband made a water heater out of an old cookie tin and light bulb, we are still working on how to use without causing issues with water and electricity and the combo of a pecking chicken who thinks a cord is one big worm. but i found an article some time back that said straw and poop mixing...
careful, if you have already started the tetracycline wait 24hours before starting the corid, the combo can kill. plus i got to say corid is the absolute solution to cocci, follow up with the electrolytes to help the gut and replenish your girl. you might consider not worming with corid as well...
thanks, i have a polish ?rooster/hen who is aggressive with my boots, but i can pick pick her/him up and the behavior stops while i hold it. but the minute i put it down it starts up. i did read an article that said to hold their head down until they relax then release and let them walk away, i...
if you get a puppy, training it to be around the chickens is your best bet. our dogs dont chase cats because they are raised with them. our birddog, a german short hair is so well trained he wont chase them though he is two. it just depends on you training the dog. letting a puppy be by your...
i hope you put 24 hours between the corid and tetracycline, too soon can kill. probiotics are best for all ages and breeds, most feed stores carry it. some have said they use baby vitamins, but i stuck to the probiotics, you can find some other vitamins at your feed store, just read the label...
the hen will literally squat and hold her wings apart from her body when stroked on the back, mine do this because i have worked very hard to keep them tame and friendly. but the best sign is the comb and wattle gets red, they may even practice their song. it sounds like a caw caw sound, but...
dont do the corrid with the wormer, corid drains their system. if you suspect illness go to the list of illnesses in emergency and look through the illnesses. note if there is bloody stool, thats coccidiosis and can be deadly. we went through the same thing, we started with corid then waited...
heres funny, my little brown and partridge colored silkie crowed today, it sounded like a squeeky toy. he is a bantam silkie, i couldnt help but laugh. he stood tall, which is almost ten inches, flapped his fuzzy wings and let out the sqeeky crow. he was next to my dominique, who belted his out...
the astralorps will do you proud, gentle and reliable daily layers. mine are just starting and out of five, three are putting it out daily. and the eggs are nice size
i have read that silkies are somewhat unreliable when it comes to laying. i have four, two ? white hens and a black and a partridge (kinda) rooster. they flock with the buff brahmas, but keep to themselves. very gentle but skiddish. i hope that next spring they get broody, kinda curious to see...
mine squatted a month before laying and were singing several weeks before, now we fill up the cartons. they are six to seven months old, one is a copper maran, a rosecomb, two red stars, a bsl and a brown leghorn. a couple more ihavent caught in the act yet
so sorry, mabe i should put my glasses on higher up my nose. talking to my husband and trying to type of course is not an excuse to rude, but it helps to explain. i just glanced at the picture and saw the line above it, oye i can be a goof sometimes. actually more than a little. still your info...
our chickens yard sits high, but with the rains we have had, well rain plus dirt means mud. but i will add rock with sand and with the yard on a hill it should help the issue. part of our problem is a big tree in the middle of the yard, it doesnt allow sunlight to hit the area
thanks chicken obsessed, great info. she doesnt seem ill, in pain or stressed. but i am going to separate her out and give her a check out. its been awful out, tornado warning and downpours. but i havent noticed her singing lately, i have 5 copper maran so singling her out will have to wait...
thanks ridgerunner, great info. i try not to put the egg under water, i do use a warm damp cloth for the real bad poop. we wont be doing incubation, hoping our girls take on that task next spring, we want to separate the breeds we love with the respective rooster. i appreciate the info, i still...
