Hello BYC! We are a couple of chicken lovers who decided to start a little urban flock in "Enter town here" AZ.
We started off with a RIR named Betsy. Betsy needed a friend so we picked up a beautiful Leghorn named .Alice
The two lived together for a while until Betsy passed away.
Now lonely...
I have to get rid of my flock. I have 2 hens left. 1 leghorn 1.5 years old who lays almost everyday, and a Jersey Giant 7 months old that should start to lay anytime now. If you know of anyone interested send them my way. Today would be best because we are heading out of town for the weekend...

Anybody?? Okay he is getting better at crowing. My wife wants him gone asap! Anyone want to help?
For anyone interested, we found a home for this little roo.
I have a Jersey Giant roo (we thought Sophie, turned out to be Joseph) that needs a new home. I can't keep him in my subdivision. He is 5 months old and is trying to figure out how to crow. We bought some eggs from a local breeder and 4 turned out to be roosters. 3 are gone and I have this guy...
Well almost 2 weeks have past and she is enjoying life as a house chicken. We put her with the flock for supervised play time and it is going okay. Her back is looking way better. It is going back to pink instead of scabby black! Today her cage was left open for 6 hours and when we got home her...

I forgot to mention these chicks are almost...
She is looking better today! She is still slow but way more alert. She is walking around in the kitchen eating meal worms and cilantro! The poos look better also! I have high hopes!
I read that Bactine is okay to use so I sprayed her and hope for the best. She chowed on some meal worm and was walking around in the kitchen tonight. So I am hoping for the best. I will apply neosporin in the AM and again in the evening. I feel so bad for her. If I would have noticed it earlier...
...get back to help her earlier so it is pretty bad. She seems weak and lethargic. I have removed her from the other hen and put her inside (it is 110* outside). I gave her some Poly-Visol to help give her a little boost. She also ate some meal worms, and banana (That made her happy). Can I put...
We have a Jersey Giant chick that was the last of five to hatch yesterday late morning. They were hatched under our broody bantam Cochin hen and are all out scavenging around the coop with her today. This last one that hatched is out with the others and following the mama around and everything...
Here's our five Jersey Giant chicks so far with their Bantam Cochin surrogate mother. Two hatched yesterday, two overnight, and one late this morning. She still has two eggs under her--one Jersey Giant and one Jersey Giant/Easter Egger mutt. We were really hoping the mutt would hatch so we could...
Here's our five Jersey Giant chicks so far with their Bantam Cochin surrogate mother. She still has two eggs under her--one Jersey Giant and one Jersey Giant/Easter Egger mutt. We were really hoping the mutt would hatch so we could see what that mix looks like, but we're coming to and end on the...
Woo hoo!!! We have 2 out of 7 so far. They are cute! When we went to dinner there was only one and a pipped egg. When we got home there were 2 chicks. Come on 5 more!! I really want the EE/Jersey Giant mix to hatch (and be a hen).
We have 2 of our 7 so far. I put some cantaloupe in for momma to snack on while she is doing her job. One of the little ones came over and started to eat it. So i tossed some starter feed on the melon so it would eat that. Hungry little thing.
So, we've got at least one chick out, if not more, but Miss Broody Patootie has them under super lockdown beneath her wing. She won't let us see anything! She even chortles at them when they peep to tell them to be quiet. I SO want to put on some gloves and force her wing up to get a peek. Guess...
