Found my 1 y/o Easter Egger gasping for air in run yesterday. She was fine day before. Reading on here about gapeworms which don't sound that common...brought her inside and keeping her warm and am treating with antiobiotcs as I'm at a loss. Doesn't have runny nose or eyes and picks at food and...
Same story with my favoralle...did use surgical surture and tiny needles and it worked great...kept her indoors for 1 week, putting betadine on incisions and giving soft diet. She gradually started back on regular mash and then transitioned back outdoors...what a trooper. Will try to get the...
Hi! Anyone wanting a gigantic rir rooster? He is too big, but nice thankfully! I have 1 roosters and am trying to downsize. He was born this spring is gorgeous!! Let me know...will post a pic of both roos and see if I get any takers!!
I have no where near that many hens...I think both roos may go...I don't like seeing the girls stressed. One roo has about 14 hens and the other only has 8...and I can't add more hens given current coop space.
Thanks!! Maybe we'll give that a try! Even though they each have a flock you think that having 2 causes more crowing? Competition and all right? You're probably right!
I hatched eggs for the first time this spring and ended up with 2 roosters. I am completely new to having roosters and their roughness with my girls is a bit hard to take. Not sure if we're going to keep them. They are in seperate runs/coops and I know they are young and not so good at this...
Hopefully we get some! Not to mention it's killing my allergies... (allergic to mold)! Hey! you're so close by in West Lebanon...I'm in Chatham!! Great to meet up on here!!
All this rain makes chicken coops a mess!! Going to make some changes in coops to allow for better drainage and putting a new floor in one as well!! Need dry weather...run is smelly...using DE to help dry stuff out!!
Awesome everyone!! Congrats!! We ended up with 9 out of 12...2 eggs had yolk still and 1 stopped growing and had developed well but still had a big yolk sac attached...not bad all around despite huge humidity problems...will run my incubator empty and try to play with the humiditiy...I could not...
Awesome!!! We're done with 9 healthy chicks 2 duds and 1 that stopped growing for some reason..was quite big but still had losts of yolks sac there...great hatch rate!! Will post some pics later on! Busy cleaning all the hatching stuff and getting the basement back in order. Have to move the 6...
Not so lucky...humidity went way down and I had to help 3 chicks out...2 are doing great 1 is super weak...1 hatched well on it's own...3 more piping...Marv...we are early though so don't fret. The chicks I helped were very shrink wrapped and wouldn't have made it out....
Staying busy is the key. Although I must admit that everytime I go to the basement I am mysteriously pulled into the room with the bator and find myself shining my flashlight to get a super view of eggs and watching for the slightest jiggle or wiggle to tell me that they are getting ready. My...
