I just picked up some chicken from a farm. They were all kept in a barn, and hay was used on the floor.
Some are missing all their tail feathers, some only a couple, and some are missing none. I got them on Wednesday.
To me it seems like the are trying to set up who is in charge and they...
So this past week I picked up a handful of new chickens. All different kinds of breeds. I saw at the barn they feed the chickens the same food I feed mine. My wife and I cracked one open and looked, and it looks fine. The shell is not as hard as the eggs from our other chickens. But I...
I know the mother of these chickens where Ameraucanas. Miracle, Boomstick, and Zombie all came from the same hen. Taco was from a different hen. Both being Ameraucana. Roosters I am unsure of. They were born on Sep 12th, so the are 6 weeks and a couple days old.
I don't know why, I am...
I know the mother is a Leghorn. Not sure on the father. Chicken is 6 weeks old. I had another chicken from the same hen. And that chicken is almost 5 months old now, and her crown was nowhere near as big as this ones. And the other 4 in the picture are a different breed, but none of them...
I just finished my first incubation and had 5 eggs hatch. Out of the 5, one was a leghorn breed, and the others were ameracaunas. The leghorn was the only one to have a comb started on the head already.
Does this mean their is a good chance it will be a rooster? Or is it just the breed.
So after moving from the city into the country, I decided to get chickens. They were born on or around mother's day. Well my Golden Comet (McNugget) started laying eggs either last night or this morning.
I am sure at some time there is a thread like this, most likely called something else since I wasnt able to find it quick skimming over the topics. But I want to get people's opinion. What do you think is better? If you think homemade, and you have your own homemade. Post a picture of it...
I just started my incubation process yesterday. Last night at some point of time between 3a.m. and 7a.m. my incubator dropped to 98. I had it holding good between 99.5 and 100.3 all day. With the drop down, did this ruin the eggs?
My friends that I get my chcikens from unfortunetly lost their male duck. (most likely to a predator) They have their animals free roam, and the male never came home. They have 7 fertile duck eggs from before he went M.I.A., so they are currently incubating them. They asked if I would want...
So i was going to just get a couple of eggs to incubate to try and replace some chickens lost this year. I wanted 7 eggs, I ended up with 20. So I made a homemade incubator to do this, needless to say I had to make a second one to fit all the eggs. Here are the breeds I have eggs for.
4 -...
I am trying to figure out the gender of the white chicken in this picture. About 3 months old in this picture.
According to who I got this chicken from, the hen was a Leghorn and the rooster was a Old English.
I don't know if that info will help or not.
I am not sure if people have talked about this or not, but I'm sure it had to come up before. Just want to get an up to date feeling.
Making a homemade incubator with a Styrofoam cooler, using a light for heat. Should I throw a can in there to make it moving air?
Hello to everyone.
In the next week or so I plan on incubating some eggs to try and help grow my chicken family. I am getting a couple eggs from a friend who lives not to far from me. But I found online (ebay) someone selling 6 Mottled Houdan Chicken Eggs, and instantly loved the look of the...
So I am new to the chicken world, and took ideas from the internet and from my friends chicken coop. I also went out to a couple of shed dealers that also sold coops to get ideas.
The overall sizie is 5 feet wide, 3 feet depth and 4 feet height in front, 5 feet height in back. Has a shingled...
Wanted to say hello to everyone out there.
Moved to the country about 4 months ago, and decided I wanted chickens. Had a friend for me incubate some eggs, and got 5 great chickens from them. Unfortunetly lost three of them in the last week. But I still have 2 awsome chickens. A Leghorn /...
