Will a young hen, less than yr, sit in nesting area for couple hours and not lay a egg? She was laying 3 in a row and skip a day but now she still acts like she's laying but there's no egg. Maybe every other day there's an egg.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the emu chicks away from dad? He has never been aggressive but I know he is VERY protective of his chicks.
I let the chick out Quilla is still pecking a little at him (it) then she sat down like she wanted to be bred? What do y'all think? I think she says "Quit following me!" and then pecks at him.
This was my previous LGD (RIP) she and Quilla were great pals. Quilla and the new LGD's get along just as great. As a matter of fact if Patrick or Sarah Faye (Emus) try to chase Quilla the LGD's run them off, protecting Quilla. The dogs are only friendly with Quilla none of the other Emus. :)
I have a Emu chick @ 4 months old that I would like to live w/ an older (adult) female. I put them together but by the end of the day she was kicking and pecking it so I had to put the chick alone in a separate pen. They can still see each other but the adult cannot reach the chick. Just a chain...
Does anyone have any idea why our extremely docile, loving female emu whenever there are strangers present? She doesn't try to attack the strangers she attacks us. I thought it was just when guys were here working (building things) that she acts this way but today she was crazed because my...
Patrick's eggs are 2 weeks past the due date...no chicks:( But Patrick won't get up> He had 2 eggs when he started to set on them and there may be 8 now. He has blow flies all around him. I don't know what to do. Just let him set till he decides to give up or try to encourage him to get up. I...
If the female emu lays more eggs after the male emu has already started to set. How does the hatching work? If he starts with 2 and over a period of 3 to 4 weeks gets 6 more. I hope this makes sense.
I got 2 emu's from a local guy here. He didn't know the sex of them nor sure of the age. I've had them for almost four weeks. One of them I hear make a grunt/growl noise alot the other maybe 2x. I thought that the one might have been a female (with less noise), this one chases my female 'Quilla'...
I believe my new emus were starving. They are scarfing down food like crazy twice as much as my other 3 put together. Do you think they will slow down after they realize they are going to be fed routinely. Or if they ever get full. Their poop is big globs with bits of food in it. I still don't...
I bought 2 Emus today @ 18 months+. 1 is for sure a male hoping the other is too. I have a lonely female "Quilla" looking for a boyfriend. So hopefully she'll have 2
My male emu gets all puffy with his head kinda down and walks circles around me while clapping his beak. But only when I go in the woods, he will follow me and start circling. Any ideas what or why he is doing this. (PS he has a female emu)
