It has been around 90 here and mine have totally stopped, as in from 8-12 to none they range in age from 1 yr 7 mo, to 1 yr and some 6 mo. I am assuming it is the heat as nothing else has changed. they free range and i thought they might be laying somewhere else so i penned them up for a week...
So I have a bearded roo, one bearded hen and 2 non bearded pullets, all hatchery bbs silkies. I don't have things set up to know which eggs are whose, but out of 10 eggs, 9 hatched Jan. 1, and I don't think that there is a bearded one in the lot. Is it chance, or will I get bearded from the...
I got me 5 blue (bbs) silkies from Ideal in April. 4 of them made it to adult hood, 1 roo, non bearded and 3 hens 2 non bearded one bearded, 2 have went broody so I let them. I put 10 under my bearded one. I think that she is the best looking of all of them. I like the size of my roo but his...
I have 3 blue silkies from a hatchery and they were hatched in April. They have been laying for a while now. How soon did yours go broody after starting to lay?
I would like to know from those who have made their own sex links, if the egg production is comparable to hatchery sex links? I am going to use hatchery stock to do this. Any thoughts?
So, last april I ordered 5 blue silkies, description said that they could be b/b/s. I now have have 4 left and lucky me 1 roo and 3 pullets. My questions is are they blue or black. I wanted blues so that I could hatch some b/b/s. I have one that isn't in the photo that is much lighter so I do...
So my broody just hatched 5/8. They were from different hens, black australorp, barred rock and some production reds. The roo is a barred rock. I knew that the barred gene would be in the chicks, but I was expecting some red chicks. Will one always get black and white chicks from a barred roo...
Looking at making a run for my silkies and other bantams. I am looking at containing them in a 24" high fence so that the bantams can fly in and out. Would it contain the silkies? Don't have a threat of flying predators here.
So i have some wire that is 36" tall and i thought that i could make the run larger by only making it 18" tall instead of 36". So do you think that 18" will be tall enough for a run?
She is a blake australorp and has been laying for a couple of weeks and has went broody. Dont know if she will stick to it or not though. She only has 5 eggs under her so i am thinking about adding more eggs today. How many should she be able to cover?
So one of my pullets is laying an egg with a thick membrane instead of shell. I was under the impression that that was a condition of older hens and not pullets just starting to lay. I am feeding layer pellets and feeding the eggshells back to them. Havent given oyster shell yet. Will the...
So I am wanting something to weed the garden, thought that ducks might work, did not. Right now is when I am needing the weeding and I have: broccoli, corn, green beans, okra, squash, cucumbers, winter squash, potatoes, tomatoes, melons, and cantaloupe, and strawberries. How do you all that use...
My pullets have been laying for about a week and i thought they would lay primarly in the mornings. Mine are laying in the afternoons and as late as 7:30 pm. Will they get settled in and start laying in the mornings or is this their normal
So this is my first time with guineas. I got keets at a day or two old, and boy do they feather out fast. What are the stages that they will go through at what age. They are about a month old now and flying everywhere in the pen. When do they moult, get the bare head, helmet and the like?
