Orpy our BO approx 1 year old is an internal layer, I suspect. She had a prolapsed vent at about 6 months of age, we got that taken care of, so we thought. She had been laying pretty consistently for quite a while, but recently, she has been laying soft shelled eggs, and no hard ones. Her bottom...

Happy Chickens Day! Bak bak bak
Ok so I'm selling my chicken manure to a guy this Friday. But I'm wondering, since I have never seen chicken manure any other way than what is in my yard, what consists of manure? I mean, we have pine shavings, hay and poop all mixed together and decomposing. Is this considered manure? I'm just...
So I advertised my eggs on Craiglist and some guy wants 36 of them. He comes to get them and off he goes. In my ad I listed the eggs as an assortment of medium to large sizes. Most are medium with an occasional large.
Anyways, I sent a follow up email to him asking him how he liked his eggs...
Hen Daddy (my dh) has created some stands for heat tool guns that us crafty people use for heat embossing. .
It's about 11" high and 10" wide at the base. It's made out of very durable and sturdy mdf, so it won't fall apart. It also has a slot for the cord to tuck into in the back of the stand...
so we just built a 4x4 coop for 8 hens. Well actually we finished building it about a couple months ago. It's new, is my point.
We live in the lovely pacific northwest where it rains ALOT, and we've noticed mold on the inside panels and ceiling of this new coop. We do have ventilation in there...
I have some stuff I want to sell, like embelishments, stamps, papers, ya know that kinda thing, and was wondering if I can post it under this topic? Or should I just put it under the BST-other stuff section?
What are the rules to this?

So tomorrow morning at 8am I go in to have my sugars tested for diabetes. They want me to fast 12hrs beforehand. That means nothing other than water after 8pm. I ate dinner at 6. It's now 10:30 and I'm starving!!!! Ok maybe not starving, but I am craving something sweet. On the nights that I...
It's been a while since I have taken decent pictures of the girls. I figured before it got too yucky outside I would take a few and then share them with you.
Here is Georgia our EE, she's 18 wks today:
Dakota, Gold Sexlink, 17wks:
Jersey, Jersey Giant, 16wks:
Lucy, Partridge Rock, 17wks...
I have a listing on localharvest.com and apparently I clicked that i have chicken manure available. Which I do, but I didn't think anyone would want it. So, someone does.
I figure I have about 3 wheelbarrows full of the stuff, mixed with pine shavings and hay. A local garden wants it, and I...
so I bought 50 and used 4 and now I have 46. These are the clear plastic cartons that snap in half to create two 6pks. Very cool. They do have a rooster label on them with a spot to put your info, if you choose, and that is the reason I'm selling them. I thought I was ordering ones with NO...
Dh calls me at work and tells me that he thinks Squidy our Black sexlink laid two eggs today.. I know it's not supposed to be possible, but have others had this happen? We know it's hers, because the other 3 gals lay either pullet eggs or banty EE eggs, and her eggs are HUGE!
Anyone?

So out of our 5 adult girls, only 2 are laying. The other 3 are either getting ready, or way past the age of laying (barred rock looks to be older than dirt, no clue on age). So that leaves 2 girls that should start laying any time now. And both are grumpyyyyyyyyy.
Wow, squawking at eachother...
We have a buff orpington, age unknown, who is showing facial signs that she is getting ready to lay. But as we don't know how old she is, we really have no idea when to expect an egg from her. Can you please post a picture of your gal at the age where she started laying, so we can compare our...
We have two young'ns an EE 7 wks old and a BR 4 wks old, that we believe are roos. We can't have them here, but would love to find them a new home, preferably not to be eaten.
Hey, and if they turn out to be pullets, great for you, but we're pretty sure they are cockerels!

We have a chick that we bought along with 7 others at a local feed store from Privett Hatchery. We were told she was a Black Sex Link. As she gets a bit older she is not developing the same feather pattern as our other Black Sex Link the same age. She is about 4 weeks old.
On the front of her...
We aquired Boots a couple weeks ago from a gal, and she said that Boots was a pullet. But after looking at her for a while now, she looks OLD! She's blind in one eye, which doesn't mean anything, but still. Also, her comb and wattles are a dull pink, kinda dried up looking, and she doesn't look...
Well our girl Sandy is officially a Sam.
Anyways, here is a video of his first few crows: Click on the picture to be taken to the photobucket site for viewing.
I'm still thinking she/he is a girl, and having gender issues, but dh is telling me otherwise!

We recently aquired a bunch of chicks, two of which are Ameraucanas. They are originally from Privett Hatchery from NM. They are about 4 weeks old, feathers coming in nicely, and they look like they are going to be pretty girls. Unfortunately, we don't have the space for these young ladies, and...
Ok yesterday morning, our girl Sandy, started crowing. But she did so when we brought our babies our to their run for some play time. So I figured it was just her getting mouthy and complaining about all the attention the little ones were getting. Didn't think anything more about it.
Until...
