Over the last 6 days we've hatched out our first 2 hatches ever. We had 5 out of 7 local eggs hatch and 15 out 20 shipped eggs hatched which is 71% for both hatches. This was a fun family project and will be doing it more in the future.
We used the LG Still Air with egg turner.
We have two batches of eggs going right now and the first batch was 7 eggs that we got from our neighbor. So far four have hatched and the 5th is pipped and cheeping. Here's a photo of the 4. They were due today and 2 hatched overnight and 2 hatched today.
Our neighbor across the street gave us 7 eggs and my daughter just hatched them out. Here's a photo of them. We have no idea what we got here. So far 4 of them have hatched.
There is obviously a big difference in flavor/taste, smell, appearance of free range eggs when compared to feed lot/pellet fed birds, so this got me curious. Has anyone tested the hatch rates of free ranging birds vs pellet fed birds to see if there is a difference??
I know that each state is different but am wondering. If I hatch some quail eggs and don't plan to sell them or the chicks, am I required to have a game bird license?? They will be for personal enjoyment and consumption. FYI, I live in WV.
Just curious about how the humidity factor comes into play when hatching eggs with a broody hen. It seems that a lot of emphasis is placed on humidity but that can't really be controlled can it when using a hen.
Has anyone tried either of this product when building your own incubator?? I'm looking to build a DIY incubator but not sure I want to use the light bulb as the heat source, so I'm looking for other methods of heat. It's a reptile heater...
Does anyone have instructions about harvesting rooster hackle from chickens for fly fishing. Since I've gotten into flyfishing, i've learned that this is a big deal for fly fisherman in tying flies. Just wondering who has done it and how to harvest it.
i am wondering what type of flooring is best for chicken tractors? I just finished my tractor and I used plywood for the floor for the coop portion of the tractor. However, I am reconsidering this choice and thinking that hardware cloth might be best. I'm finding the chickens scratch the...
So about 4 weeks ago I went to TSC with my little boy and we decided to pick up some chicks. This is the first time we've raised chicks and felt it was a nice project to add to our Chicken Husbandry skills. They only had 1 bin of chicks and it had a sign that read Red Pullets which can be a...
So 2 1/2 weeks ago we bought some chicks at Tractor Supply Company. Only one bin had chicks but there was no sign. The empty bin next to the chicks said Cornish Rocks, and the sign on the ground said Red Pullets. So far I do not see any "red" in these chicks and they are starting to turn...
