Afraid I may be dealing with resp. issues

When feeding yesterday afternoon I found the Mookie hen huddled at the side of the pen. Her head was down on her breast and her tail would dip with each breath. She was gone when I went out a 6am to check on her. Her mate is now acting like he is having breathing issues. The feathers on...

Fingers crossed the Moms can raise the babies

I have a wild pair that successfully hatched 2, then abandoned them. I have another pen with 2 females that have been sitting on unfertile eggs for weeks. I took a chance and put the COLD babies under the female that was sitting on eggs. It took a few seconds to get her settled down on the...

Any thoughts on switching to crumbles

We have an assortment of pigeons, Modena, Mookies, Parlour Rollers. Each breed is leaving large amounts of some type of seed/pea. I have heard of pigeon pellets rather than whole seed mix and was curious if anyone has any experience with it. The picky rollers and mookies won't eat the peas...

    Breed/gender guesses?

We recently brought these 2 home. We are hoping for foster parents to raise parlour rollers but it would be nice to have a guess what these are.

    Corrid dosage for pigeons

Would the dosage be the same as poultry? We lost a Burmingham roller hen and both of her young yesterday and after a few calls I was told it might be cocci. I haven't noticed the cocci smell or bloody stool but it won't hurt to treat the cock just in case. We also have a pair of parlor...

    White duck molts to buff?

I was talking to a friend the other day, she had a white duck move onto her pond. They had to repair the outflow so they caught the ducks before draining the pond. While the white duck was contained in the run she molted and is now buff colored. Any guesses on her breed? She now wants more.

Hope this goes better than the first set of eggs

This evening I saw the egg under the parlor roller, Saturday we should have the second egg. This is their second attempt, they hatched one earlier and I found it dead 11 days after hatching. It looked like it had been stood on all night.

Breed recommendations for indoor doves or pigeons.

My daughter wants to add doves/pigeons to her 4-H list. She is thinking of about a pair that she can keep inside. She isn't interested in diamond doves or button quail, they are to small. Any recommendations?

Small air cells at day 14

I've been marking air cell development on my 2nd set of eggs. From the diagrams I've come across they are looking to wet. The depth from top of egg to air cell is only about 1/4 inch. I've removed as much water as I can without tearing everything apart. Can I get more evaporation in the...

    Moving broody hens and eggs

I have been asked if I can arrange hatching chicks for our county fair. Our fair is held in mid August, this year everyday we broke 100° It is a pole barn structure. We are putting the birds on wood shavings instead of wire, they were much happier but using the big cooling fans presents...

How long to set shipped eggs before putting under broody?

I've ordered my first eggs, they should be here tomorrow or the next day and now I can't find the thread on how long and at what temp I should set the eggs before giving them to one of my "leggless wonders"? Any help will be appreciated.

Breed recomendations for Southern Oregon Climate

I would like to get some SOP or Heritage birds that I can raise out and sell chicks to our 4-H kids. They do well with the harchery chicks but, they don't look like the pictures in the books. They are "Utility" birds, nothing wrong with that, they do what they were breed to do. I'm trying...

    Hello from Southern Oregon

After 40 years of saying I would NEVER have chickens I now find myself with 73 of them. I was talked into them by my amazing husband. He wanted 18 or so for fresh eggs for us and the extra ones to go with us to our local growers market. I got to pick which breed and I went with Barred Rocks...
