After a year of having them, we decided to build them a better coop. Guess that was all the butt holes next door needed to turn us in and we had to give up our chickens.
It was quite upsetting. My daughter who LOVES chickens cried.
So, I'll be leaving the forum soon.
My one chicken, Ginger, that has all the issues w/ being bullied, is alone in her own cage and healing nicely. Even laid two HUGE eggs for me. Today I noticed that her one eye is puffy. The naked redish skin is puffy, but the eye seems normal so far and no drainage. Her wounds look nice and dry...
Ok. Weird question.... I wonder, could I make her a chicken sweater to cover up her wound so it can heal, but allow her back w/ her flock? I'm worried about her getting cold w/o the others to snuggle w/ at night.
Do you think they would just remember she's wounded, or smell it and still pick on...
I got me some nasty chickens. Went out to check on the flock and Ginger is pecked bloody again w/ a deep wound on her back. I snatched her up right away and set her up in a dog crate. She's eating and drinking. I'm sure it hurts like hell and I put some purple stuff on it to help it. She'll be...
I GOT A HEN! I GOT A HEN, A HEN, A HEN! I'm so excited I giggled like a school girl! OMG... it's brown, either Buffy or Gingers.. My guess is Buffy. OMG!!!! WEEEEEE!!!!!
Exactly 17 wks ago we got them. Tuesday, April 10th!
I have a rat... WTH? Anyone else have rat issues? My girls are getting close to laying, and I don't want a rat stealing or breaking any eggs and then starting egg eaters... I hate rats. Where did it COME from? Gurrr!
Gonna get a rat trap today. I have spring traps... we shall see... little...
16+ weeks now and turning red and big in the comb and waddles...
this one is my least developed one, then the one behind her, I believe.. I have three of four that are pretty big and red.
and a my two red Ranger Girls...
Buffy
Ginger had a wound on her back. Healing nicely.
How long after leghorns grown combs and go red do they start laying? I have one that's comb has changed a lot in the last week. I know it's early, they are 15 wks now..... I just heard they go big and red before. And they lost their young feathers, fully feathered in adult and seem to be full...
My chickens are 3 mos old now. 4 white leghorns and 2 red rangers. They're not laying yet, but I wonder, should I worm them? I never have an have no idea what kind of wormer to use.
Do you HAVE to worm them? I guess I should do it before they start laying?
Any info would be wonderful...
So far I've been using DuMor because that's what they were using at TSC. I've also seen Layena and Purina ...
Any suggestions? And when do they switch from chick feed to layer feed? '
Thanks a million!
They are huge, substantially bigger than my W Leghorns. Anyway, like I said before, I have 2 from a straight run and they're turning a bit red. I LOVE both these birds, one more than the other, she's so friendly... but I'm soooo worried that she is a he, or both are he's. I wont be able to...
Ok, I'm obsessing over Buffy being a roo. There are times it's waddle and comb are very reddish, then it's not so much. It's slightly larger than Gingers and tends to have more color, but it comes and goes. Am I seeing things or is she/he playing tricks on me? They're a little over 4 wks now...
It's really warm in PA right now so they went out and spent the night. Seems to be adjusting well. Last evening, they spent most time outside, in the run. Today... they are more in the coop than anywhere. Is it because they feel safer? Is it cause it rained last night and it's damp? Is it...
Opinions? What is the best feeder for a small flock? Should I make one w/ a bucket and two lids or would a commercial one be the best. I don't like how they don't have a lid. Do I put it in their coop or the run... or one in each?
I think one might be a roo. Comb is a smige bigger and wattles seem a bit more pronounced... but I know it's still really early. They're three weeks.
This is Ginger, the one I think is a girl.
This is Buffy. My son named it Buff because, as a day old chick, it's chest seemed to be...
Apparently, Chickens aren't allowed in my township. I'm quite upset about this.
My father passed away in January and I was looking for this to be a distraction to help me w/ my grief. He and I were really close. My Mom had to placed in a nursing home, she has MS and now their property is...
I have two Red Ranger chicks. Just got them yesterday so I'm guessing they're a few days/week old. They're *trying* to fly ... more of flapping their tiny wings. They came from straight run so their gender is in question.
I'm new at this chicken thing so I was wondering would the colors...
