Hey! I've raised chickens for off and on for probably 10 years, but want to start with turkeys.. How different are they overall and is there anything I should know before I start? I have 50 acres and thought of letting them roam as we have random predators on our camera VERY RARELY (for now)...
I had some people making fun of our family for how lovey our kids are with the chickens. We were laughed at for treating "livestock" like "babies", please tell me that other people love their chickens this much too. I know we can't be the only chicken crazy folk out here!!!
Does anyone have a photo to share and some info on their homemade waterer? Or your heating choice for winter to keep water from freezing? I'd love to see pictures!
I have two chickens with bare necks, suppose they are starting to molt or that this is agression from other chickens? Is there any way to keep chickens from kicking one other hen out of the flock or is this just part of it?
we were getting 17 eggs a day, now only 12 and we're only a few months into egg laying. what could be the cause of the lack of egg production? they get plenty of protein, but we are being stalked by hawks, can stress stop the eggs?
A white, rubbery looking egg shaped blob with cord attached fell out of our isa brown last night. is this an egg that hasn't developed, is this normal? anyone else had this happen? I'm totally grossed out.
This will be our first winter with our hens. How do they do with colder temps and knee deep snow? Do they stay in or do you lock them in? Or is it healthy for them to roam in the snow? Wondering if they are smart enough to know when to head inside. Also- I heard if you don't vent your coop...
I've been doing photography for many years. With that being said- you can imagine my children are sick of seeing my camera.. so I now have lots of pictures of my chickens because they never complain and they love the attention. Infact, they run to me when they see me come outside. Here is a...
I'm new to the site, and could not find any isa browns listed, i wanted to read reviews, is it possible they are missing or called by a different name?
I would really like a new variety of chicken for our backyard farm. I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations as to which birds are unique in look and behavior, but still friendly towards children.
Thanks !
Our family has been so much happier and joyful since we added our crew of 20 chickens. We have only had them since march, but we have loved and bonded with these chickens in a way I never thought. It's actually kind of funny considering I DID NOT WANT CHICKENS. haha! Glad my husband...
Okay, so we researched why our chicken was tearing out her belly feathers and hoarding OTHER chickens eggs while not laying her own... and then we promptly renamed her Broody, lol, moved her into a cage hanging in coop, made sure she was getting air on that white belly, eating/drinking, and...
I need help guys, I am new at this! I have 20 chickens, 10 RIRs, 7 ISA Browns, 3 Blk Jersey Giants. How can I tell at 2.5 months old who's a male and who's a female? I was told to look for spurs/neck feathers. But I don't see anything notable, does that mean I might have all females...
All our bags of chicken food have had slightly different advice... so I wanted to know from some people who have done it themselves- how much food do 20 chickens need each day and do you put it all out at once or do mealtimes? Our chickens are about 2.5 months old. I noticed some really runny...
