    What Happened???

I had some chicks in the brooder and we watched this thing like a "hawk." Poor illustration... I know... However, right at the hatch date, everything was going great, yet four eggs didn't peep...at all, even though we had candled at 14 days and all seemed well. We left them in the bator for...

missing feathers on my hens back

I have a couple of hens that are missing feathers on their backs. Possibly this is from a very "friendly" roo. However, I separated them for 2-3 months and their feathers aren't growing back at all...maybe a small feather here and there, but certainly not like normal. I really don't know what...

    Flooring

Can you use hardware cloth for the floor of a chicken coop that is 4x8. I know that we will have to support it well so that it won't sag, etc. But will this work? I thought it would be a lot easier to get washed out etc. Sooooo, what do you guys think? SAB

    Fighting Roosters

I am not sure that I am putting this in the right place, but I'll try it anyway. I have two 10 month old roosters that have been raised together since three days old. One Barred Rock and one RIR. The Barred has been the "King of the Coop" since day one. They never actually fought, but he would...

    Coop Designs Page

How do I get pictures of my chicken coop on the "Coop Designs" page? Just curious. It's not because I think I have the ultmate setup, but I just glean a lot of ideas by looking at what others are doing and wanted to give back a little...that's all. Any information on how to do this would be...

    Keeping Your Breed Pure...

I saw a post on this somewhere, but I could not find it again… I have four separate breeds of chickens right now. RIR’s, Barred Rocks, Buff Orpington’s, and Silver Laced Wyandotte’s. I have two hens and one rooster of each breed. They are all in the same pen and get along well, however, my...

Can anyone recommend an incubator to purchase?

If so, what brand of incubator? Also, do I need to go ahead and get the one that automatically turns the eggs? One more thing: I spoke with a gentleman in town that owned our local feedmill for ever and a day, and he told me that he had better luck (at home) by just purchasing two banny hens...

    Two New Babies!!!

We had one of our RIR get broody (this was a first us...since we are newbies) and she was killing the chicks as they were born. She got three before we could stop her. That left two eggs that were barely starting to hatch, so we took them and put them under a heat lamp and last night they both...

    My New Coop Condo

This has been a work in progress and my camera was down during most of the construction... This is my first coop and I am a "newby" in the chicken business (April 2008). My son and I built the upper portion of the coop first (it is 4 by 8). Then, we had the idea to close in the bottom and...
