I found one of them just dead, not eaten, and half buried. My husband said he saw a fox, so what do you put in the trap ? Am I right to want revenge ? LOL It was my fault for leaving the coop door open :-(
I bought a few chicks back in the spring and one was a "Comet". I LOVE this breed, or maybe they aren't all like this one ? She is super friendly and I can just walk up to her and pick her up. She just started laying and the egg color is a beautiful dark brown. She also grew faster than the...
I believe it was due to high temperatures yesterday. Is there anything we can do to help them stay cooler ? Their coop is in the shade but temps are so high :( I think I'll keep them in today so they won't be out in the sun.
I've heard of some pretty interesting and funny names so what are yours ? I'm not that creative but mine are Lucy, Layla, Moe, Curly, Spike, Brownie, Comet, 236, Baby, Little Red, Speckles, and Stinky, the rooster. I also have 4 young chickens that I didn't name yet. :jumpy:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy
This is the first time I've had Bantams and I'm wondering, do they mature faster than a standard size chicken ? It seems like one started crowing pretty quick.
Hey peeps LOL. I'm trying to hatch some eggs in a homemade incubator for the first time ! I have 9 eggs and around day 10. I saw movement in 3 of them. The rest I couldn't tell I guess cause they are brown eggs. I have one that is white, but I think it may be a quitter. My question is, how...
I always let them sit on eggs in the spring, but do I have to wait ? The coldest we go is in the high 20's but there are only 2 eggs in the nest so far. They are just finishing a molt and starting to lay again.
They don't seem to eat the pellets, or corn anymore. They go crazy for bread and they are healthy, laying eggs, no problems. I'm just wondering why I'm spending money on pellets they don't want.
OK so my beautiful rooster has turned on me and I removed his spurs (I thought) . It seems like only the cap came off and there is still a pointy thing left about a half inch long. What is that and can he use them on me ?
That's the only thing we could think of that got one of my chicks last night . I looked all around and found something made a little round hole underneath the bottom boards of the cage. I don't know what else it could be, but I moved them to the more secure (I hope) cage.
I searched and couldn't find an answer to this question. If I deworm my hens, will it affect the FERTILE eggs, as in will it affect the chicks growing inside ??? ( I know we shouldn't eat the eggs for 14 days after.)
I was wondering this because we were out of town for 5 days and 2 of my hens only laid 2 eggs in 5 days . (one egg each) I don't know why else they stopped laying. Hope they start up again, now that we are home.
Has anyone bought these ? I thought that might be a better idea than buying more chickens that might have lice or something worse. Also, could you just put the eggs in one of the hen's nests instead of an incubator (which I don't have )? also then I wouldn't have to mess with the rooster who...
