I have not been on in a while - life got busy. I live in Ridge. We still have our girls and now Royal Palm Turkeys and meat birds. Just wondering if anyone else from LI is here. Thanks and look forward to being here more.
My name is Karen and live in Ridge. I have been a member here for about 8 years but have been inactive in the last 3 years. Not much with my flock has changed and my girls are very happy and doing well. I just felt I needed to re-introduce myself after not being on for so long. I hope...
1 adult fertile Royal Palm hen for sale. Organically raised - Ridge, Long Island, NY. She is on her second clutch with 2 eggs currently layed. Asking $100 The Tom is not for sale.
found a 1 week old poult in the shelter away from mom- limp and almost non responsive. It's neck is pretty flexible and it opens and closes its mouth with a faint peep. I have put it in a box with some bedding under a lamp and giving it water from a tiny syringe. It has some dirt on its back.I...
This is our first full season with these beauties. Our hen is sitting on 12 eggs. Right now the tom is gobbling at every sound made outside. Will this chatter die down after spring season? Also, any preparations for when the eggs hatch - keep the tom in the pen with them?
Thanks, Karen
Hi everyone. Went in to check my girls and collect eggs tonight. One of my barred rocks is coughing. After reading some of the posts her on BYC I have a feeling it might be moist bedding. My BF changed the water the other night and spilled some. I have been changing out the wet spots with...
I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing. I have searched on here but perhaps was using wrong search words. Anyhow, here on Long Island it has been a bit chilly with some snow (lol). Last snow storm and cold bout I kept chickens in coop -shut the door to the run.
Question, Should I...
Ok this question was most likely answered but just want to make sure with my situation. I posted pics of my new chicks and rescued hen this morning. Henna, the hen was a rescue because she was being picked on by other hens to the point of losing all her tail and hind end feathers.
I was...
Jim and I set up the brooder tonight to make sure the lamp is at the right height, and their new home is nice and ready. I have a little sandbox for them - a 2 inch high tin cake pan filled with play sand. A waterer on a piece of wood, food on a piece of wood (These will be filled when they...
Well we are making progress. Work, weather and life have held some things up. However, I am thrilled and can't wait to finish it so I can get the ladies in there. I have posted pics of progress so far. Now it is just the little stuff on the inside, siding and painting on the outside. We are...
Even more has been done but its dark out now to take an up to date picture. We are a tad stuck on the roost plans - distance from wall. The plans were a tad cofusing.
Its a fun project.
Building a coop from plans drawn by 3 Dimensional Concepts. These bars are attached to wall at a 45 degree angle but the distance between the bars and the distance from the wall seems off. When we do the math the distance between the bottom and top roost are 7 inches, the distance between the...
I found some great prices from Wayfair, Amazon and Wireclothman.com. My question - the 16 guage seems almost twice as heavy as the 19 guage. What is the standard guage used for coops? Thanks.
Hi everyone! We broke ground on the new coop and are very excited. Question on windows -
1. What are some good suppliers of windows?
2. Is 14 x 21 a good size
3. Coop will be 8 x 10 - three or four windows?
Thanks,
Irischick
Hi everyone! Getting ready to build our first coop and have some design questions.
1. We were thinking of raising the nesting boxes off the floor a tad. - Any comments - pros/cons? Heights off floor?
2. We were thinking of putting a lip on the front of the box to keep nesting material in...
