For those of you who do show can you rank the following by importance or your thoughts on these topics? I am trying to identify what is most important for you to feel like you had a good experience. And of course, no one wants to pay a show fee, but I'd like to have your thoughts.
We would...
I have a 'combless' mutation I've been working on that cropped up in one of my breeding pens. I am interested in trying to make a Combless Modern Game. I would prefer to have bantams, but the combless is currently in LF.
With horses we put the foal in the bigger parent. Same thing with...
I've been flipping through the standard and can't find a description of Short, Medium, and Long shanks and thighs.
I'm trying to find some guidelines to help with culling my exhibition Cornish. Any help appreciated.
I have a Heritage bred f(non-exhibition type) Cornish roo. He was fine one day, and the next day I find him laying down with his head tucked under his chest comb on the floor. He was and is in a pen alone.
I checked him all over. No visible external pests. He was treated with Frontline two...
We are going to be there with birds from our Spring hatches.
I am bringing started Standard Dark Cornish.
I think Wren is bringing:
Dutch (CLB, LB)
Buckeyes
Ameraucana
EE's (Olive eggers)
Delawares (Roos)
Dominiques (Roos)
I don't know about the MGBs.
If you are intereted in anything...
We are in the process of culling our Spring hatches. We are fairly new to Buckeyes, and I am wanting some help interpreting color standard.
We have two young roos, very nearly identical. One has solid black tail feathers, the other has mahogany red lacing/edge on all of his tail...
Anyone going? We are trying to sort out what we are taking to show and what we are bringing for the sale pens.
I am definately bringing Standard Dark Cornish Roos for sale. If anyone was bringing Standard Darks I would be very interested in buying--esp if they are Hens!
So I mailed in my order in May, they cashed my check in June and sent me an order confirmation. 7/14 was the last hatch day I indicated I would accept.
It's now 7/17 and no chicks this morning at the post office.
I sent an email asking if my order got cancelled for some reason and got no...
Anyone thinking about going to the 2009 Ohio National November 14-15?
My sister and I have just solidified that much of our fall show schedule.
I thought it might be fun to see who's going, and if we had stock to bring for sale.
I am always intersted in Standard Dark Cornish and Doms--maybe...
It happened again
I came home from work yesterday to three Guinea Keets in the bottom of the Brinsea. These guys tumbled down two layers. They were supposed to go into the hatcher last night--not actually hatch!
I got them into a hatching tray, and moved all the other eggs down. We had 27...
I just though I'd post some pics of my small dual purpose bird project.
Focusing on my best type hen:
A weeks worth of eggs, I'm really happy with the shell quality.
The minimal comb I'm breeding for.
Nice broad back.
Could be a little deeper in the body/breast.
I am breeding one of her...
#1 We built another brooder/coop yesterday to house babies.
#2 I didn't write down when the last rack of eggs went in...I'm going to have to go stare at the calendar for awhile....
Yep time to call it good! 10 hatches this spring, the Brinsea has been full for almost three months.
One more...
We are having a fun debate. We got this little one, and he doesn't look like anything we've gotten before:
The chick on the left should be a Cream Light Brown, the chick on the right is what we are debating. It does not look like the Blue Cream Light Browns we raised last year. The...
Ok I just saw some of the new illustrations for the 2007 edition of the APA Standard. My question is this: If it's not even close to the breed description, do judges really go by it?
I am refering tothe Standard Cornish image in particular. There is no way the current bird, or the new image...
I heard a very unhappy chick thing morning and realized it wasn't in the hatcher. I scrambled over to the incubator and started scanning the shelves for the baby. I must have missed an egg when I moved the last batch of eggs to the hatcher.
The incubator is absolutely full, so I started...
Anyone going to the Sedalia show? It's a day trip for us, so we will be there.
I am interested in: Standard Cornish, Buckeyes, and BC Marans.
I would be willing to save some Standard Dark Cornish hatching eggs to bring with me--if the girls grace me with some eggs. They seem to be on...
Well I just did fertility checks on my young rooster, he's not getting the job done. I put my most easy going hen in with him, she was fertile with my older roo 4 weeks ago.
He is very interested in breeding, she doesn't seem to mind him or run away when they are scratching and just hanging...
I'm just wondering what everyone else is doing. The chicks in the incubator are (hopefully) destined to go to shows.
Mareks?
Newcastle-Bronchitis?
Coryza?
Any downsides to vaccinating?
Thanks!
