I have a white chinese who's about 4 years old. Over the past 6 months, he's been slowly losing weight, despite grazing all day every day on poultry feed and greens. When I first noticed his weight loss, it was cold out and I assumed he would plump up as there were more plants available. At one...
My muscovy hen is working on her first clutch, and it has not been going well. First the other ducks disturbed her nest, so she moved it, losing three eggs. Now I checked on her eggs myself, and noticed one had a crack. I was excited! Well, the hen ripped the egg out of my hand and bit into it-...
Hi guys.
Yesterday I went to the local farm supply store, and ended up walking out with their last gosling. A cute little white chinese. However, it seems he/she was the only gosling in there for some time, because it's been picked on. Eyes are watery from pecking, was a little dehydrated and...
I'm really prone to worrying, so this may be an overreaction, but the duck who laid this egg is whimpering quite a bit. She's the smallest of my pekins and about 10 months old. She isn't exactly the tamest duck, but I brought her inside for a warm half hour bath and am waiting for help to check...
Boris is a [jumbo?] pekin of about two years. I adopted him in November I believe from a member here on BYC along with a friend. For a few days now, I've noticed Boris' feces have become little more than white liquid. After some searching, I've decided that his symptoms and appearance match up...
It baffles me why I a google search for this comes up with nothing. I've found my ducks to be incredibly smart...smarter than my lap dogs, even. So far I have a female pekin who knows how to 'beg' (I think that counts), several more pekins who hop up and down for a treat, and a little muscovy...
My three mystery ducks have piqued my curiosity again...A few months ago, they were a solid cool blue/silver color, but lately they're developing a sort of red mahogany breast color. I've never seen this coloration before on a duck. Does anyone know if there's a name for it?
The...
Background story!
Last night, Flan and Mallow somehow evaded getting in the the barn before dark- on the one night I didn't count my ducks. Well, last night was also our first snow. They spent the night on our pond with a flock of mallards instead. This morning I realize with massive motherly...
I've found the most beautiful duck I'd love to add to my flock. She's absolutely perfect- and a rescue duck at that! The problem is, she's in Utah. I've contacted her current owner and they've told me they can indeed ship her to me, but it has to be ground shipping. After some looking, I've...
Can ducks eat mushrooms? I currently have an excess of portobello mushrooms that I know my ducks would devour, but I can't find anything online about whether they're safe for them to eat or not.
Since my pekin drakes have matured, one of them has begun carrying his tail to the side. Initially it was thought to be an injury, but there seems to be no improvement after a few months. More recently, he's grown a second drake feather alongside his first...and then 3 more in a whirl around his...
Trying to figure this out. My muscovy duckling is about 2 months old, and over the past 2 weeks has been getting slower and slower to the point that she was trailing about 100 feet behind the rest of the flock. I was just about to take her to the vet when she suddenly started being able to hold...
I've known the sex of my older ducks for a few weeks now, but only just determined my ducklings today. Some advice would be appreciated...I'm a little concerned. Here's what I have:
Female
______
Jill (Pekin)
Tiffany (Pekin)
Stacy (Pekin)
*Nugget (Appleyard/Harlequin cross)
Flan (Blue Swedish...
I currently have two flocks. The main flock has 10 ducks: 7 pekins, 3 unknown mixes, and most importantly what looks like a welsh harlequin/appleyard/pekin. She's small, mallard sized, and her wing feathers are almost entirely in. She's been raised with the pekins and seems to have taken one of...
I believe a snapper got ahold of one of my duck's feet. The dewclaw is torn, one toe pulled from the rest, and (most importantly) the spongy tissue in the center of the foot is exposed. I've washed with alcohol, dried, put baking powder on it (there was so much blood...) but I'm very concerned...

Three 4 or 5 week old ducklings appeared out of nowhere and joined my flock 2 days ago. They're underweight and stressed, and this morning i noticed the insides of their mouths had become very pale (nearly white) compared to yesterday.
Is there something I can do/feed them to combat this? I'm...
Just as the title says. A group of three ducklings appeared in my flock today, and I suspect they're underweight. They're slightly angular, but I find it hard to tell if this is because of an awkward stage or not. Is there a sure fire way to tell if a fluffy duckling doesn't have enough meat?
Hah, okay, apparently I have a very active duck life.
I was in the yard with my flock a half hour ago, when I heard some distress calls. I almost dismissed it, but when I looked toward the water three ducklings, maybe 4 or 5 weeks old, swam/ran like hell toward my pekins and joined them. Too...
Hello, everyone. Here's a bit of an explanation: Last Tuesday, I lost one of my very young Pekins to a snapping turtle. A family member encouraged me to craigslist, to at the very least look for a possible replacement. By Saturday, I had found some very local ducklings...Muscovies. I'm on day...
