I've seen rooster collars on roosters, and many people claim they are great in reducing the noise level.
I am wondering if they work on HENS, has anyone ever tried this?
I have 3 extreamly loud hens, it's to the point where I might have to get rid of them if I can't quiet them down. They sing...
I'm very familiar with Barred Rocks, I have quite a few of them, although I only have hens and have never had a rooster.
This chick is about a week old. Looks very different from my other Barred Rocks.
The beek is large and has no black stripe and it's body has a lot of white.

Hello Everyone,
I wanted to start a Homesteading Thread for us who have small properties.
I currently have 5 chickens and several small gardens.
I hang my clothes out on a line. I am an avid coupon clipper and thrift store shopper.
I have about a half acre of property, but I have a major pipe...
I have raised my flock of 5 since they were hatched. They are now 22 weeks old.
One of my girls is a Dominique.
She has always pecked at me. Now it's to the point where I'm wearing gloves to feed and water them to save my hands... It's not just a peck here or there, it is repeated pecking.

This is my first year raising chickens on my own.
I currently have 5 hens.
I'm curious to know how many chickens is appropriate to feed a family of 5 and still have some for family and friends.
I'm thinking of downsizing to only 3 hens, although I've grown attached to all of them.
My girls are all 21 weeks old, no eggs yet.
It has been very cold and dreary the past few months here in Pa.
Anyone else have any around the same age, and still waiting?
(I have Barred Rocks, Dominiques and Rhode Island Red )
:fl
This chicken was given to me for free. I don't know what breed she is.
I just can't tell. She is about a month old. Here are some pics of her.
Thanks in advance :)
