How much should I sell a turkey for?

I have a Blue Slate Tom more than 20 lbs, probably closer to 30. Assuming I can catch him and hold him down, what kind of scale could I use to weight him accurately? (I can barely hold his wings closed, my dad will probably have to help) And I honestly cannot afford to feed him anymore. He...

    Ear infection?

One of my hens, I saw had some wierd lump on her face, it looked like her earlobe, but with no feathers I wanted to catch her to inspect it, but the geese chased her away and I only just now have been able to catch her. She is a Black Australorp. And when I caught her I noticed there are...

Sick turkey, unsure of reason. (Picture)

We have two adult turkeys, a Sate Tom and a Red Bourbon hen. We also have ducks, geese, peafowl, chickens, etc. We live on a small farm. I have never had health problems with the Tom, but when the Hen was younger, she and a group of peafowl were sick with something. It wasn't mycoplasma, but...

Coccidiosis, Corid and Vitamin B Treatment (question)

So, apparently my whole flock has Coccidiosis as many diseases become "if one gets it, they all get it". I've noticed a drop in egg production, but I am pretty sure they had it awhile. Only one or two is symptomatic really. I have a mixed flock of birds, peafowl, turkeys, guineas, chickens...

Can egg laying chickens drink Mosquito Dunk water?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/science/science-news/11661332/Creative-people-are-more-likely-to-suffer-from-mental-illness.html So I've seen this product awhile now and there are a lot of mosquitos where I am. But if I have laying hens, is this safe for them to drink if we eat their eggs...

    Noise inside egg?

Okay, goose egg supposed to hatch on the 15th or maybe today. Sometime nowish. Air cell grew dramatically within these last few days. Like a lot. I put my ear up to the egg and I hear this clicking noise. Its not a squeak it's almost like a thudding mechanical noise. What is it? The chick...

Feeding only what we plant? Will this work? Cutting back on store feeds?

With all the birds combinde (chickens, geese, peafowl, ducks, guineas, turkeys, etc) we have about 100. Most are chickens, plus half a dozen ducks a quartet of geese, a trio or peafowl and a pair of turkeys plus a handful of guineas. If I planted 1-2 acres, what would we have to plant and...

Careers in poultry or other birds?

I'm a college student going to SFA. Right now my major is Computer Science, I was thinking of a minor in Poultry Science. What careers could I have while sustaining a flock of birds and still make 5 figures? I can't work for Tyson or any of that (plus I don't like them ) I love birds so...

When to remove the heat lamp?

I have chicks more than a month old. They are growinf fast and have a lot of feathers. I picked up banties at the store and are too small to run the the biggies. I am setting up the brooders outside, sheltered. It is Texas and the high is 77, very sunny. Can they go outside now?

    Time to cull this hen?

This is one of the worst chickens ever. It just goes to show you that Leghorns are Satan's chickens. I've had these from the start, now 2 remain. I've expanded my flock greatly in 2.5 years, and I don't want to kill these older girls or something because they're been with me. But, Glenda and...

    Something seems wrong

I have 11 chicks. Various types and sizes. One recently died. Not quite sure why. The chicks are all hyper aggressive, jumpy, flightly and constantly pick at themselves and others. More than usual. I don't think it's just me though. Something seems off.

    Egg vitamins

What vitamins are in eggs? I would like to try and give them some of that to see if that changes the colors of the yolk. My yolks used to be a darker orange, but have been yellowing. Why? I'd like to see how I can fix that.

    Chick gasping for air

I have a chick I got with a batch for about a week. It's laying down, gasping for air. The others seem fine for now, but this one looks to be dying. It's one of the larger chicks and it was in perfect shape. I heard Tylosin in the water can help, but avoid ACV and electrolytes/gatorade...

Goose egg embryo stuck to side?

I tried to incubate a guine egg, candled pictures were crap. Maybe the dark shell did it? But these are not as bad, but still, not great. Anyway, so it looks like the incubator isn't turning right? I have a Brinsea Octagon 20. But, the embryo isn't centered. Will this be lethal if it comes...

How do you take good pictures?

I want to post the well defined pictures of embyos, eggs, etc , but my pictures are CRAP. So, what's the trick? How do you position lighting, the egg, etc? My rubber seal for the candler went AWOL. Is that a make or break issue? Here are my sucky photos. What am I doing wrong? Should a...

Incubating Goose eggs and incubator questions

I've got a small flock of geese. 3 Brown Chinese and 1 White Chinese. (I think that's what they are, they look very similar to Africans of their respective colors, but I'm going with Chinese from their shape and thinness) Anyway, if the dogs don't get the eggs, I have a few to incubate. I...

    Pullet wing bands?

Are those supposed to be removed or are they made to stay on for the life of the bird? I've been wondering that and some of my 1 year old birds or older still have them. I don't think they harm the birds, but should they be removed?

    Feed habits?

Should my birds get a buffet of layer pellet or a set amount? I have a large flock, so the geese eat first, then the agressive guineas/hens and so on and so forth. I heard they get broody or something when their greens overtake their intake of feed. Or maybe it was more eggs? I supply them...

    New chicks!

Alright, just breed, no gender. Here are the pictures. Some are heavies, some are bantams and some are banded pullets. Are heavies solely for food or are they just large breeds in general?
