My first duckling has hatched and is flopping around the incubator now. I can't wait for him to dry and fluff up. For those of you who have hatched before...how long do I leave him in the incubator before moving him to a brooder? And is there usually a "glob" of blood vessels in the top of...
Just popping in to tell you what I heard this morning...coming from the vicinity of the incubator...peep...peep peep peep peep. Yep! At least one of the ducklings has started peeping from inside the egg! I'm so excited! The kids were ready to stay home thinking it would hatch today..I told...
Well, I'm disappointed, but figure it was my first time and I could only hope for the best. I set 6 welsummer eggs and 2 of them developed completely, but never hatched. Saturday was day 21 and I waited until today to take them out of the incubator and open them up. One of the chicks had even...
I have a pair of Pekin ducks that were given to me about a year ago. My female is an awesome layer and I get an egg a day for most of the year...she took off a few months this winter. I currently have 6 of her eggs in the incubator, but noticed the other day that she had made a nice nest in a...
Tomorrow will be day 18 for my hatch and suddenly my humidity has dropped from around 34% to 29% and I can't get it back up. I've tried plugging both vent holes, filling the resevoirs, I have three wet sponges in their with a shallow bowl of water even and I've misted the inside...it won't...
I know it's only day 6 of my incubation, but I just *had* to candle to see what I could see.
Of my 6 duck eggs, 2 of them were refrigerated before incubating. I can see veining on 5 of the 6 eggs, and I'm not real sure about the second refrigerated egg.
Of my welsummer eggs, I'm not so sure...
I'm soooo excited! I got my 6 Welsummer eggs in the mail today and they are beautiful! I've been collecting my Pekin duck eggs too for the last few days as well. I'm really intent on getting the welsummer chicks hatched out and setting the duck eggs to experiment on how well they will do...
After reading the posts here and a miserable attempt at a homemade bator last year, I broke down and bought an LG incubator from the feed store today. It's a still air incubator and I don't have an egg turner or fan or anything, so this should be a real adventure.
I don't have a rooster...
We built our coop two years ago when I got my first chicks. I didn't use any plans, just thought of what I wanted and gave it a go. After reading this forum, I wish I'd done some thing differently, but we might be able to fix some of our problems.
The coop itself is built right on the ground...
I started my chicken adventure about two years ago with about 12 straight run chicks. 7 of them turned out to be roosters! I ended up trading some roosters for a couple of established silver laced wyandottes. And then later traded my one polish rooster for an beautiful rooster. Sadly over...
Help me! My chickens used to lay everyday. Even the female duck has stopped laying eggs. Every single one of them stopped laying at the same time and have not started laying again...and I'm serious it's been months. They are fed laying pellets that are available 24/7 and have water available...
