I'm using an iPhone. Problems:
I can't find how to search within a thread
I can't jump to the top of a page when I've scrolled all the way down to the next page buttons
Searching in general is extremely inconvenient in general.
Our 3-yr-old Australorp, Mother, didn't seem to be feeling well for a couple of days. She laid down yesterday morning when the rest of the girls were scratching around, so I separated her and found pea green solid & bright green liquid droppings in her hutch. She is eating & drinking. I...
Our 3 year old buff orpington, Mrs. Pickles, isn't drinking as much as the other girls in the flock. She was dehydrated and had a swollen eye, so she was away from the flock for a week. She's been back with them for a week. She isn't being kept away from the waterers and we've added...
We have a sick hen in the house. When she recovers, how do we acclimate her back to outdoor temperature & how long might it take? The heat index is still reaching 110+ during the day here in Central Texas.
Any advice on using aluminet shade cloth over the run? I've only found a couple of posts that mention it & they're several years old. If it works for anyone, please post.
We have a run that is a 10x10 dog run covered with the standard black shade top. We've covered that with tan colored shade...
Our girl Lucy (easter egger) is losing feathers. She is 2.5 years old. The feathers she's losing don't have the feather shaft or fluff above it attached. The feathers are from the back of her neck. I don't think it's from being pecked. I've seen them just fall off of her. She seems to have...
Our girl Lucy (easter egger) has been scooting sideways underneath one of our other girls, Donkey Kong (australorp). For a few months, Lucy has been doing this on the roost. Donkey Kong refuses to give up her spot until Lucy scoots under enough to shove her off the roost. I understand that...
Clear, liquidy poop with white chunks. Lethargic but drinking. Slowly getting worse since yesterday and none of the others seem sick. Feathers not puffed up. Protozoa, bacteria, or something else?
Barred rock hen, age unknown. She is at least 2 years old. Molting slowly over the past...
What options are there for buying pine shavings in Central Texas? We have tried Tractor Supply, the local feed store, and the local farm supply store. Tractor Supply's quality has taken a serious dive, the other places had shavings which were too dusty or too sharp.
We use a lot of pine...
We gave our chickens piperazine then followed with ivermectin 10 days later. Do we give them ivermectin again after 10 days or are they done with worming medicine until next time with something other than ivermectin?
Could we please have a photo contest for creative uses of molted feathers after the molting photo contest? Buckets of molted feathers are overflowing and it would be wonderful to see how others are using them.
I can't find any diagrams showing how to build roosts in large coops. I've found many suggestions on roost dimensions and placement, but nothing showing how to actually build a roost. We have 11 standard-size hens in an 8x13 coop and would prefer something that doesn't attach to the walls.
I would like to use the molted feathers from our hens to make a pillow. Should the feathers be cleaned somehow before putting them in a pillow? They were clean when they fell out, but will the natural oils begin to smell if they're put directly into a pillow?
It would be great to see some new clothing available on the BYC store. I can't find anything in my size left in stock.
How about a shirt that has "I love my chickens... and backyardchickens.com" on it? A member contest to design the next BYC shirt?
The new coop was safe enough for the girls to sleep in last night. We have 11 hens and the new coop is 8x14. Temporary roosts they've been using during the transition included. The coop is inside part of our 16x24 workshop and that's where they've been staying during the transition. This...
