Daphne is my lovely white pet runner duck.
Yesterday she was fine, today she can't stand and drags her feet on her belly (as if trying to swim through the grass)
She seems to be able to stand for seconds at a time, before collapsing in a pile.
She prefers one leg to another, so at first I...
So here we are again...do my eyes deceive me as I pray that it is a pullet and not a roo?..
The cockerels were; cuckoo marans & black rocks
The hens; RIR, Cuckoo marans, Copper marans, Araucana, leghorn/Minorca
It is definitely a cuckoo maran of some sort. At first I thought it was PURE...
'Dumpling' is my wonderful 5.5 month old Brahma.
'Her' face only started going red about 1.5/2 months ago, but she has rather big feet and play fights a lot..
'She' also has pretty shiny feathers on her back.
'She' is the only one out of 6 that hatched from eggs I bought and incubated.
PLEASE...
I bought some eggs off eBay.
A load hatched, I sold some and kept two to add to my flock.
Only one looked different, even from day 1.
Now on nearly 2 months of age and 'he' looks to be a runner cross.
I messaged the guy I bought the eggs from and sent photos of the difference.
He told me...
'Dumpling' was fine yesterday but when I went to let them all out, she just stood there hunched up looking sad and shivering/twitching.
It was cold last night and they don't have heat anymore, but they do have a little cat box filled with wood shavings and there is a lot of them so usually they...
I have a 9 month old female runner called Daphne, and I recently bought her a boyfriend called Felix - another Indian Runner.
He's very handsome and I was told he was 5 months old, that was 2 months ago.
He's definitely a male, with the curl in his tail and the manly duck voice...
But a part...
So something went wrong with my incubator and 10/11 muscovy eggs died.
I managed to aid one to hatch almost completely.
She is very small and weak, she can barely stand (now almost 3 days old)
She has almost no interest in food and flicks it out of her beak if I try and tempt her. I have to...
I have noticed my Muscovy acting broody for the last week, but was still laying eggs.
Now she has fully lined her nest box with beautiful white down, and has officially stopped laying.
I'm actually incubating some Muscovy eggs (hers) in the house, they are half way through now, I didn't want to...
My Muscovy started laying for the first time ever about 2/2.5 months ago.
Everything was going great until lately, she doesn't lay for days, and then all of a sudden I find a shell-less one lying on the ground or in her bath.
This has happened a few times, once I just found the egg - yolk and...
Ok I hatched 3 pure Embdens, they're 6 weeks old.
One is almost pure white (never had much of a 'saddle' at all). - named Oliver
One has a light grey saddle. - named Cous Cous (sounds like Goose goose)
The other has a very dark saddle. - named Lizzy
The pure white one now has pure white...
I don't know if it's just because I really don't want it to be...but I'm not sure if this is a roo or not?,,
2 months old now and still hardly any redness of the comb, but a little on the wattles.
Please say it isn't truuuue?!
I bought these eggs from the communal farm down my road.
I sold the rest that hatched but kept two, guessing that one was male and the other female, and I was right! The female looks like a chocolate runner..x ?
And the bluey one I'm not sure about, but maybe a Blue Swedish x Rouen or an...
Can some one shed some light on this for me? I've heard they are auto sexing, and I've also heard others say they aren't...
I have goose eggs hatching for the first time very soon, have managed to vent sex ducks before.
Many thanks
So I hatched 4 pure chicks and sold one (with another breed).
So I have 3 now. One is blue ish grey with faded chipmunk pattern and dark, - slow wing dev.
One is pretty much just gold, red and brown with strong chipmunk pattern - fast wing dev.
And the third is almost purple grey with faint...
One of my ducklings has slowly lost a bit of down around her mouth and eyes, also, a scab has formed on the back of her head.
I thought maybe she had burnt her head on the heat bulb (I have moved the bulb now) and then perhaps it scabbed up, she scratched it with her foot, and now it looks a...
Everyone is twitterpated here down in the south west of England.
My cockerel is happily mating with all his hens, except one, Pandora the crazy Leghorn.
She would allow (squat) a mating every week or so if I was lucky (I sell hatching eggs and incubate my own) but in the last 4 days, she has...
I've only just noticed that my little Exchequer Leghorn's egg tooth is still stuck in his/her beak. It's already starting to cause malformation, but I can't get it off, she screams to high heaven and I can already see blood.
The egg tooth is pinching the beaks growth development and I really...
Turns out my humidity must have been out and the screen was lying.
I over 2 days late, I have managed to hatch 4 chicks (out of the original 10) 3 were declared dead before internal pip - my conclusion, not being able to reach the right position and eventual drowning/suffocation.
I still have 2...
A common problem I have had when buying hatching eggs through the internet (especially ebay) is that you get detached air sacks, even when it states on the front that they are 'hatching eggs' it seems as if they are being booted around in the staff room at the depo...
With a total of £30.00...
It's about 4 degrees c outside at the moment, about 10c in the day
One of my hens seems to be acting a little broody-esk.
I.e taking a long time to lay an egg, hanging around I nest box, getting stressed out with the other go in it after her (they all have one favourite)...
Is it cold enough...
