Need Advice From Experienced Cullers on Broomstick Method

Chicken looked to be gasping for air while flapping. Lasted only about 1 minute tho. Did I crush windpipe and not break neck? What should I do...

Do they need food and/or water at night?

Im planning on keeping the food and water outside, shutting them in coop at night, and quite frankly my coop isnt large enough for a feeder and /or waterer (only got three chicks). Is this going to be ok? If so, how many hours can they stay in the coop? Was planning on sun down to sun up. Thanks.

Why I LOVE sand in my brooder!

Im a clean freak. Sand is for clean freaks! I got a pooper scooper for sand from the reptile section of the pet store and clean up is so easy! No smell, clean chicken feet, water spills dry quickly, sand doubles as dust bath, sand doubles as grit, sand holds warmth, and so many more reasons. I...

question for those who use sand in their runs/coops

I'd like to use sand. I know I need a few inches of it. My question is, what's under the sand? Just a dug out area in the ground? A wood base? Concrete? Thanks.

Hi! I need to suspend my lamp over one end of my rectangular brooder. The clamp clamped to the side makes the lamp point at an angle and heats the whole brooder. Ideas on how to suspend the lamp other than drilling a hole in my ceiling for a hook? Thanks.

newbie needs help with vaccinations please

There are no hatcheries in my state. Not one. My neighborhood is zoned for less chickens than most minimum orders from out-of-state hatcheries. I can get chicks at one of two local country stores. Neither order vaccinates chicks (Marek's). They both say that if I feed the chicks medicated feed...
