After treating with selenium, vitamin E and a chick vitamin supplement her neck improved, her eating and drinking is back to normal, but her balance and...

    Chick weak and unbalanced

Help! I have a 6 week old chick that is suddenly acting very strange. She can't keep her balance and seem tired and weak. We've been treating all our chicks with corrid for the past week. Could the two be related? They all eat unmedicated chick starter and all other chicks seem ok at this point.

    Mass on head **updated pics**

A few weeks ago I posted about a limp on our chickens head. Over the weeks we've watched it, it hasn't grown much other than growing with her, she has no upper resperitory symptoms, she's eats well and acts normal. We have noticed, however, that fleas seem to embed themselves in it like ticks...

    Worms?

I just walked out and noticed in the run, where the chickens were sctratching, that there are a handful of little clear little worms wriggling in the dirt. Now, I realize that dirt is going to have worms and with the amount of flies we battle, it's possible that it's fly larvae. But, should I be...

    Flooring/Bedding suggestions?

What does everyone prefer to use as the flooring/bedding materials in their runs? We've been using hay, but I read that hay can harbor harmful bacteria and shouldn't be used in chicken coops. So, before I run out an buy something new, I wanted to get a general idea of what other people used...

Baby chicks, FLorida temps and merging a flock

We have 3 pullet chicks (2 Tetra tints and 1 Buff Orphington) that are about 3 weeks old and we have 3 adult Silkies (2 hens and a roo). We're trying to decide when and how to move the chicks to the outdoor coop with the Silkies, but honestly don't know where to start. We live in central FL, so...

Is my hen laying on her eggs enough? Newbie....

How much do hens need to lay on their eggs? I have 2 hens that are laying on eggs, but they don't lay on them much throughout the day. Also, when we got our older girl, the guy who gave her to us gave use 12 fertilized eggs for her to lay on. My girls are laying machines and keep adding to the...

    Silkie Hen or Roo?

We were recently given two silkies and told they were both Hens. The bigger of the two seems to be a hen, but the smaller of the two has me guessing. Any thoughts? The bigger girl, Lucy. The smaller one, Chedder. And their bouncer, Titan. :)

    New silkie mama

Hi all! I'm very new to raising chickens, but have already found myself obsessed, er, in love with my silkie girls! They're friendly, inquisitive and hilarious to watch. A friend offered to give us a pair, so my husband built a coop and they came home. But, we've noticed that they do not take...
