    Drake with Bumblefoot

*UPDATED TO ADD PICTURE* My white crested drake has bumblefoot. It is pretty large, about the size of a marble on his heel. There have been no symptoms until yesterday when I noticed him limping. He is inside now in a large wire dog crate. I have soaked his feet in epsom salts and warm water to...

He is inside now in a large wire dog crate. I have soaked his feet in epsom salts and warm water to get all of the crusties...

    Creepy Crawlies-SPIDERS!!!

Is there a safe way to get rid of and repel spiders in my chicken coop and duck houses? I think they are wolf spiders which are venomous, they're about the size of my palm. Most bugs scurry away when disturbed but these stay put and raise up their front legs. They are living in holes they burrow...

    Solar Power for Coop

I found a solar kit at my local BJ's and am considering adding it to my chicken/duck/garden area as a source of power. My area is about 300' from the closest electrical panel that i could tie into. I have gotten estimates to run electricity and install a 4 outlet gfi. The least expensive was...

No Waste Duck Feeder...Does it exist?

Is there anyone who has found/made a duck feeder that limits/eliminates wasting feed? if so PLEASE post pictures. I have one that I made for my chickens, and it works well, but the ducks will not use it. I guess sticking their heads in a hole to eat is a phobia of theirs, they're MUCH more...

    Finally, They're Outside!

Chicken coop and duck house building proved to take 3x longer than I planned. I tend to underestimate time and budget on most projects, this time was no different. I am far from finished with the coops and runs, but they're safe and secure, all that's left is mostly cosmetic. BUT, I am happy to...

Crested Duckling got picked on today!!!

Qwackers, my special needs duckling, was picked on pretty badly while I was at work today. I noticed that my Black East Indie, Indie, was nipping at Qwackers and my Khaki Campbell, Raj, last night in the tub. Today I come home to this and Indie had white feathers stuck to his bill. Qwackers...

Question for those that are using hot wire around coop/run

How do you run hot wire around the doors so that they're not a weak point for predators? I know how to run the wire around the rest of the coop and run, just don't know how to configure it around the doors. Pictures would be great!

    Best Turkey Breed

I would like to add a few turkeys to my mini farm. I have 8 four week old chicks (6 golden sex links, 1 danish brown leghorn, and 1 unknown) and 3 ducklings (white crested, khaki, and black east indie). They would be for pets only, not interested in raising them for meat, so I'd like for them...

Treating Wry Neck In Crested Duckling *EDITED TITLE*

Qwakers, my 11 day old White Crested who has had a VERY hard life so far, and has been doing well, is now starting to hold her head to one side. It is not bad, YET, but wanted to get started with any treatment I may be able to give him/her ASAP. I am new to ducklings and am wondering is this wry...

    Duckies First Swim-video included

Qwackers really didn't know what to do, but he/she still seemed to have fun. Raj and Indie had a blast! They spent about 10 minutes in the tub, then I towel dried them and put them back in their warm brooder. They all immediately started preening and were dry in a few minutes. That's my husbands...

    Solar Powered Hot Wire

Has anyone used this product, or one similar? I have no power at my garden or coop and was considering this as an extra barrier for predators and nuisance animals. The reviews are some good and some bad, not sure if I should try it. http://www.harborfreight.com/solar-fencer-47454.html

    Duck House

Can some of you seasoned duck owners give me tips on an ideal duck house for my three? I am building a coop for my 8 chicks, but want something separate for the ducks. The coop is 4'X6' and the run is 12'X12' plus another 4'X6' area behind the coop. I do plan to add on to the run as I can...

    Sick Duckling!

I started a new thread hoping to get more responses. I just picked them up, they've been in shipping since Monday at 4p.m. 1 was DOA, 1 is VERY sick, and 2 seem OK. The healthier 2 are drinking and trying to eat. The 1 duck one is laying down, labored breathing, and will not move much. I have...

Ok, give it to me straight...

My sister ordered 4 ducklings for me. The tracking shows they were received by USPS at 4p.m. on the 10th, they were scheduled to be delivered today, but there's been a delay and there still not here. I am hoping my post office will be calling first thing in the morning telling me they've...

    Murray McMurray

My Sister ordered ducklings for me from Murray McMurray. They were shipped yesterday, and this morning I finally got tracking info, they're scheduled to arrive in the morning, I've made arrangements to pick them up as soon as they arrive. One thing that I noticed is that McMurray is in Iowa, but...
