I was looking into bedding and saw a product called Pitmoss Roost. I believe it is a type of recycled paper/cardboard. It states it last longer than pine shavings, so i dont have to clean my coop so often. I can throw it on the compost also.
Who has experience with this product and what are your...
So I am moving from MO to CO. I found several places that allows 6 hens, sadly no roo. I would like to bring my best layers with me. What is the best way to transport my girls with minimal stress (and smell to me). Do you even recommend taking them, or should I just get new ones(which makes me...
I just hatched out four Olive eggers (originally had 6 eggs, but two were infertile). The mother was a blue laying Ameraucana , and the father is a Blue Copper Maran. The first three hatched friday evening/night, and the fourth one hatched saturday evening.

my welsummers occasionally have these (i'm assuming) blood clots in the whites of the eggs. My other chickens do not have this issue and it's not every welsummer egg. Does this happen to other individuals also?
Okay I am having the chicken crave. I have 6 right now. My coop interior is 5 1/2 feet by 6 feet with two roost going along the length and width of the coop. I have a run that is 6 by 16ft( they can go under the coop). I've added a little chick door since this photo, and added a small uncovered...
I would like some olive eggers that lay the dark dark green eggs( more like OD green then olive), but I can't seem to find where I can buy some. Any suggestions? I'm in sw Missouri.
My chickens are 3 months old, and have been in their coop for a bit. We had a small tree that was about to die in our woods so we cut it down and made the roost (inside the coop) out of it. My pullets do not want to use it. I keep putting them up there, but they would rather jump down and huddle...
So my little cheeps are fully feathered, and 10 weeks old. I put them in their coop with no warm light. During the nights it is mid 50's, and my cheeps pile in one corner on top of each other. One night it got down to mid 40's, so I put the lamp in (red light) they still piled. I just put a...
My two younger welsummers have these on thier legs but my 7 week welsummer does not. This is my first batch of chickens ,so is this normal? They are all supposed to be hens/pullets.
My chicks(supposed to be all hens) are about 6 weeks old, and we are about half way through building the coop. I estimate it will be finished mid april.

My buffs were sexed but my other two breeds were from straight runs. I think both of my welsummers are pullets, but unsure how to tell with the americanas. I tried doing the wing length thing but they were four days by the time i figured out that method, so i was unsure if I was looking at them...

I have six chicks right now, and will probably get 4 more at some later date. I know I want 3 sq ft per chicken, don't want the hens crowded. How tall do you guys recommend making the coop? My run will be a full 8 ft high, and the coop will be in the run. so that it'll all covered, and I want...
So I will be going to get chicks on the 15th, and these will be my first chicks ever. I have been researching, and reading like crazy about everyone's opinion of the bedding of the coop and run. I plan to keep them in a plastic tote with a heat lamp in my mudroom until they get their feathers...
