    Chick afterbirth???

    So far 4 out of 18 chicks have hatched…all by themselves. And I noticed when they come out they are bragging a green sac connected to them by a white cord…..it falls off, but is this normal??? This is my first hatch!

    This is torture!!!

    Im on day 19 and I have 2 out of 18 eggs that have pip'd! I can hear one of them chirping away! The waiting is KILLING me!!! I thought I was going to have a heart attack when my digital thermometer read 38 degrees!!! I must have hit the F/C button! What do other people do to pass the time???

    Has anyone every used…...

    Has anyone ever used the non-slip matting that goes under a rug on the wire rack of the bator so the the eggs dont roll around? I have read about putting cheese cloth down, but was wondering if the non-slip matting would work.

    Egg laying pattern

    I have a Barred Rock that is almost 20 weeks old…..She started laying on Sunday and I noticed that she lays for 2 days, off a day then then 2 days again with an off day…..is this a normal laying pattern for the breed? Dont get me wrong, Im happy with the 5 eggs a week, just wondering.
