Does anyone have tips on dealing with the heat? We have lost 3 of 6 chickens in the past month due to the heat. We have opened up the coop at night to help with airflow and they always have water available. These are all Golden Comet chickens just under a year old. Thanks!
We have two 10 month old laying hens we are selling. They are awesome but we just have too many for our backyard. I believe they are sexlinks. $20 each or $35 for both. Delivery available in the Killeen/ Fort Hood area. We just want them to go to a good home. I will post more and better pics later.
1 Americauna (Easter Egger) Laying Hen for sale. She just started laying 1 month ago. Gives beautiful pastel green eggs.
1 Americauna (Easter Egger) Pullet for sale. She will start laying about mid October.
These are the highly sought after layers that give the green and blue eggs. We are...
Just thought I would throw a couple pics up if anybody was curious on seeing how fast these things grow. And we are not even feeding them heavy protein feed. We are feeding 50% scratch to keep the growth down a bit so none of them die of wierd growth problems. Plus we want to keep them from...
I have 26 Cornish X's that are 3 weeks old now. I am just wondering what is the best age to process? Also other things to make them more tastey? What age can you pull away the heat lamp?
A couple things I have started doing:
1) Started feeding 50% scratch to slow down their growth...
We had a party back out on their end of the deal so we have 25 extra Cornish Chicks available! They will be 1 week old monday so they are past the crucial stage...and growing fast!!
Well,
I can 104% recommend Lazy 54 Farms in Hubbard, Oregon! We ordered 50 Cornish Crosses and received 52 Happy, Healthy, Bouncy Chicks this morning!! Yippee!
They are now chowin' down on starter and a gallon of water with electrolyte that came with the order. Just wanted to let everyone...
I thought this was some great wisdom I found on lionsgrip.com and thought others could benefit:
1. Add dried wild fish meal to the feed mix. Or better yet, free-choice it along with the usual mix. Then, get a test done, and let your customers know how much omega-3 you have in your chickens and...

Weekend 3: I've actually added locks to all the doors and ran extra wire behind the chicken wire, since taking these picks. I will be gone all this week and next weekend so I'm hoping to have this all done in the next 2 weeks!

Hi all! I just got 6 new pullets that were hatched in mid-march (4 months old about). Two leghorns, 1 EE and 3 Black Sexlinks. They came from a lady that was very knowlegable about chickens, I thought.
We got them home a few days ago and they are soooo skiddish! I mean, one of us can just walk...
I have 7 Goldens and all of them have the yellowish orange legs except for two. They have green legs like a EE. Does that mean they have EE in them? Not that I mind just wondering...in fact I almost hope they have some EE in them.
Which reminds me...I have waay too many 4 week old chickies...
Wheww...this is turning out to be more work than I had planned. Hopefully it turns out to be worth it. Our 3 week old Chicks seem to like it so far.

Well, we are at a point where we should figure out how to finish this out. There are tons of different designs we can do from here, where doors will go etc. At this point, I can definitely see where pre-planning comes in handy. ha haa
Oh yeah, the dimensions are 6' long by 3' wide. The bottom...
Just wondering if anybody has any pics of Golden Sex Links they might want to post? We have 8 that are two weeks old and I was wondering how much variety they have as they get older.
Thanks!
I have quite a bit of older 2x4's and other misc. wood if there are people here that live near Boise. Just email me for specifics. This would be a treasure chest for anybody looking to build a coop and don't have wood.
Does anybody use hay in their run? What do you do with the semi composted hay and manure? I was thinking of laying hay down and then building a compost bin. Once the hay and manure builds up about 6 inchs or so, I could then throw it in the compost bin to recycle into dirt for the garden. I...
