    Residual effect of permethrin?

Is there a residual effect of permethrin solution sprayed in chicken house? Will the spray keep on killing the mites/lice that may be hiding there? And for how long? Why would poulty mites hide in the coup? I thought they lived on the chicken. :/Is there also residual killing of mites/lice...

Are these two both Buff Orps?

They were the same size when I got them at a day or two old. Now white legged one is bigger with her tail sticking up. And little yellow legs is so much smaller. Are they two different breeds? I'm pretty sure they are both pullets. Right? Sold to me as Buff Orpingtons.

Most humane way to kill 8 year old hen

What is the most humane way to put down a chicken (please don't say chop off head, can't do it). Our 8 year old is so slow and crippled that she attracks lice/mites to herself and I don't want them spreading to the other 2 aldult birds or the 2 seven week olds that will soon be going into that...

Our 8 year old black Australorp hen has been getting progressively slower and seems to be a little crooked. Her tail is up, her comb is red, she eats fine. Justs lays down a lot and moves slower. We can't see any obvious damage to her. Did notice that one side of her new feather growth...

    Dang mites

Just found mites on one of my birds, the 8 year old Buff Orp. We dusted all the birds (only have four) with permethrin and now I'm wondering how to do the chicken house. Should I take all the straw out and put permethrin dust down and get a new bale or just replace the floor and nest/sleeping...

Can't get any antibiotics but Terramycin & Sulpha

I would like to treat my sickly bird with something other than terramycin but can only get sulpha (which won't help at all I'm sure) over the counter and there's only one vet locally that treats chickens and they're out of town. Sheesh, what a sad and frustrating area I live in. Even the vet...

Dark comb, slow & sickly 7 year old Buff Orp hen

Does anyone know anything I can do for my sickly 7 year old Buff Orpington hen who's been slowing down and acting listless for the past few weeks and now getting worse? Is ammonia toxic to chickens?

Seems I may have a raccoon(s) visiting my yard. :o Found poop but haven't seen the critter yet. Anyway, I've seen a lot of advise on putting a radio out, which I am doing tonight, and using ammonia spray or ammonia soaked rags on the pooping area(s). I thought spraying would be easier, but...

    Broody too long?

Hi. My 7 month old Buff Orp has been broody for 5 weeks with no eggs to hatch. Shouldn't she be done by now or is this normal when no chicks hatch out? I take her out once a day so she'll eat and drink because I haven't seen her do it on her own. Thanks for help.

Play radio to keep hawks away?

I read somewhere on here about playing a radio in your chicken area as a deterent for hawks because they don't like human voices. Does this work?
