What age roughly should my muscovy ducks be taken out of the brooder. They are only a week old but seem very bored already with their surroundings. Constantly chirping. I have let them out for a wee run around the kitchen but they do not like going back in. Are ducklings hardier than chicks.
I live in Newtownabbey in N Ireland and know that people from here read this forum. I really need homes for five RIR roosters who are about 7 months old. They are just starting to crow and are getting a bit frisky with my poor hens.
Would anyone like to have them. I know roosters are not popular...
I have searched and found information on this topic here but just wanted to clarify something. My poor banty had a shut tight eye which I put antibiotic eye cream on and wiped with saline solution and got the eyelid opened.
I rang my vet who said I should add the antibiotic for a few days to...
Oh dear. Went out to give chickens and ducks some water and saw a hugh rat in the run, it did not even move when it saw me, just sauntered away when I went towards it.
Its all my fault, my husband will say. I have a feeder inside the coop but I can't help feeding them outside. I guess I wll...
I have just today bought a pair of Frizzles (white) a cock and hen. I believe they are about five weeks old, I have put them in a brooder for now as I felt they were a little bit young to be on their own for heat especially at night. I will look up the breed and find out as much as I can about...
I was worrried because Lucy was very broody and the eggs she was sitting on did not hatch. So I put the babie RIRs and one speckeled maran in with her even though they are about three weeks old and she loves them as you can see!! I have now removed the old nest and put new hay in for them all...
My hen Lucy has been sitting on eggs for a while now but I think its over 21 days. I should have taken note of the date she started sitting on them but did not. I feel so sorry for her as she gets really upset when I try to move her. I have some RIR chicks who are about 3 weeks old. Should I...
Muscovy ducklings some nine weeks and some five weeks old. Need good homes in N Ireland, Newtownabbey area. Only for sale as pets, would need a home with a bit of ground but a pond is not absolutely necessary.
This is a picture of Mum and Dad muscovys.

I really am obsessed by chickens. I just love them. I wish I knew why. I have ducks too and they are sweet but I just love the chickens. I love gardening too and being outdoors mucking about so I guess thats part of the reason. The nice thing is my children love the chicks too which is great.
I am really sorry if this is already covered. I have looked and looked and see lots of advice for hens with poopy butts but does this advice also apply to chicks? Mine are 4 days old and have a bung of poop in their buts. I have tried to wipe the butts wih a damp tissue but am really afraid of...
I was cleaning out the coop and noticed a lot of tiny black flys in the corners. I was wondering if they were fleas!! I brushed out the shavings etc and put down the dust stuff I bought but was wondering if they are common - fleas in coops that is and will they be on the chickens. Ugg!
I spent the month of july worrying about how to stop two of my hens being broody. But now I have been given some while cochin eggs and really need a broody hen!! I do not want to buy an incubator. What are the chances of a hen becoming broody at this time of year? The eggs have been sitting for...
I am worried. My coop is about 6 feet by 6 feet. The run is about
20 feet by 30feet. I have 10 chickens and 8 ducks (3 mscovy and 5 calls) I thought they had tons of room but someone has said its too small. I also have 4 acers of ground and can let them free range if I have to. but am worried...
My neighbour and I both have hens and ducks. One of his laid a really tiny egg today. It is not a bantam and we are wondering why this would happen. Any ideas anyone?
I have 10 chickens and 3 muscovys living in a converted shed which is 6feet by 6feet . I use a mixture of shavings and hay on the floor laid over some old news paper and I clean it all out every week. I was wondering if this was excessive as I read on the forum thatsome people only clen out the...
I cant believe it after all the angush I now have four ducklings . My neigbout thinks I should take them away from the hen who was sitting on them and put them in a brooder. I feel that the hen should keep them after all her hard work hatching them. Has anyone any thoughts on this?
I am completely new to hatching eggs and was just about to give up hope, but today there are pipps and I can actually hear chirping. I have call duck eggs being hatched by a hen. I realy was sure all had gone wrong as I thought the chicks were due last tuesday. I am so excited. I hope they are...
