So Remi, the dog, is still really young, like 6 weeks, but I want begin as soon as possible training him so he won't be a problem later. He's not going to be a hunting dog or anything, I just want him to know that it's NOT ok to jump all over everyone and to listen to basic commands, such as...
I'm really wanting a mixed flock of layers that includes Orps, but am worried about them being bullied because of how docile they are. If it helps, these are the other breeds I'm interested in:
1.) Easter Eggers
2.) Partridge Plymouth Rock
3.) And either Danish Brown Leghorns or Anconas.
What can anyone tell me about Ancona chickens? I really want some hens for my layers because they lay white eggs and look awesome, too, but they'll be in a coop with a run. Everything I've read says they aren't too big on confinement.... So who can tell me what they know about Anconas?
A lot of the older people I've talked to say the warmer weather makes a hen want to set. I've also heard people say it's a biological thing, when a hen lays so many eggs her body tells her to set. But then I've also read online where people keep certain hens around long past their prime laying...
So my yellow lab puppy, who has just recently been taken away from his mom, is constantly straining to use the bathroom and I'm pretty sure he's constipated.
I'm about to give him a little milk, and then later after I go to the store I'm gonna give him a little bit of pumpkin. If that doesn't...
I just got a yellow lab puppy yesterday, and already ants are a huge problem. I don't know about where ever yall are, but here we have a really big issue with ants all over everything.
So I put his puppy chow down into a bowl yesterday, came back like an hour later, and he'd hardly been able...
It hasn't quite got to 100 here yet, but it's close, and my chickens are definitely feeling the heat. I want to get some Cochins, but I'm not sure if their fluffy-ness will make them less heat resistant?
Is it better to have some brown in the feathering of the back, like this ?
Or to be more solidly grayish colored on the back feathers like this ?
Or is it neither? It seems like the second hen is a nicer looking hen, but is that what's to be desired?
I use the term Polish loosely because I'm pretty sure he's a cross. I bought him at an auction a while back, and was wondering If I was right in saying he's a cross.
Also, his crest is only on one side of his head... It looks almost like the other half may coming in, but I may be seeing things.
I have a Silver Ducking OEGB hen that likes to move eggs around in the nest. I thought she was doing it when she layed, but I just went out there and she'd moved them again and there was no new egg.
Could she be thinking about settling down on those eggs ( ), or am I wishfully thinking, which...
My Campine Bantam hen layed an egg today with a few spots of blood on the shell? Do you think there is a reason to be concerned?
Another rooster was trying to get at her mate through the chicken wire, and they were fighting a little, so I guess there's a very small chance the blood could be...
My first question is if the crest of a Polish when mixed with a non-crested chicken would show through or not?
The second is if when crossing a cochin with a non-cochin, would the offspring be mostly cochin or mostly regularly feathered?
Yesterday I moved one of my mutt Bantam hens into a smaller temporary home with a rooster until I could get their permanent home ready. Today when I went out to look for eggs, there was a greenish colored egg in the pen with her and her new rooster. Before I'd moved her she'd been in a pen with...
This guy may just be a mutt, but I have another like him (no picture at this time) that is colored exactly like a BB Red OEGB. I put the spray paint can there just for size comparison.
This is just his temporary home, which isn't very large, but he's not even close to being too big for it.
Any ideas what these would be? If they aren't anything particular, does anyone know what could possibly be in them?
The rooster:
And the white hen is his mate:
The bantams in the picture are ones I ordered, so I know what they are, but I'm not sure about the larger, darker colored standard roosters they threw in for warmth. They are mostly in the center of the picture. Are they some kind of Wyandott?
Also, there's one grayish colored chick in the...
They just got here this morning! There's four Gray Japanese Bantams, 5 Blue Mille Fleur d'Uccles, and about 9 or so males chicks given to me for warmth.
I believe the standard chicks (the roosters they gave me) may be Wyandotts (spelling?), but I'm not sure about the little guy in the back...
My Gray Japanese and Blue Mille Fleur d'Uccles should arrive tomorrow or Thursday, , which is exciting, only I've suddenly found out that I may not be able to get them from the post office until around 3:30 PM tomorrow, if they arrive before then. Thursday is no problem, but tomorrow has me a...
