Hello I was wondering if anyone could identify the breed of my chicken. I had assumed she was a Wyandotte, now I am questioning. I was wondering about the grey one too?
Good morning,
I have a hen that does not appear to be feeling well. She is eating and drinking, but moving very slowly and appears to have a crusty behind. I took a couple pictures of stools from her and was wondering if what you guys thought. Do they look normal? They had lots of bubbles.
This is one of my Silver laced Wynadottes, Laverne. Does she look fat? You can see she looks and is built completely different than my other SLW, Shirley. She is much heavier and broader built. She also has a few issues that I am concerned that maybe caused by being too heavy. I have had an...
We have had an influx of predators since spring. This is the first time we have had any issue in over two years of having chickens here. We have removed 8 raccoons and a possum in just a couple of weeks. We have been very careful making sure to only free range in the middle of the day and making...
Hello,
I know that this has been discussed here before, but I have not been able to find any answers. I have one hen out of 6 that is laying a daily egg with a shell so thin that it breaks when laid in the nest. She has been doing this for months now. The rest of the hens all have strong...
I know they are very, very young, but I thought I would ask and maybe update each week until hopefully they lay a pretty colored egg. Anyone have any guesses. I ordered them and just picked then up Friday from the local Feed Store, I believe them to be about a week old now. I know they are EE's...
Hello,
I have one Hen out of 6 that seems to have lost her feathers on her back \ wings. The other hens have not lost any. I assume it is from the rooster, but my daughter is concerned about her with winter coming, so I said I would ask. I will share a picture of her. My question is, is it from...
Hello,
When I went out to check the chickens today, I noticed something strange with our rooster Cogburn's comb.
I have a couple of pictures and was wondering what you guys thought about it and of course whether I need to do anything.
As always I appreciate your input.
Thanks...
Hello,
I have 4 hens and a rooster that are just about 18 weeks old. I just opened the nest boxes in the coop. I had blocked them off until now, so they could not start sleeping in there. I have placed a golf ball in each nest. I noticed today is that the Rooster kept pecking at the golf...
My chicks will hit 18 - 20 weeks right around Christmas time. I live in a colder climate in the Midwest and there should be snow flying by then. Can I expect my chicken to start laying around then? or will it be delayed by cold until spring?
Thanks for your input!
After a lot of discussion we decided to use pallets for the base of our coop. We have access to good food grade pallets and choose to go the cheap (free) direction. I have to tell you though, I am not sure my husband will be willing to go that direction next time. Pallets are not a true...
My chicks are 4 weeks old now and I have kind of guessed at the gender of each. I was wondering what all of you thought?
What I would really like to know is what breed you all think they are?
Pictures are not perfect but they do pose pretty well.

Hello, these are my 3 week old chicks. Obviously not a pretty stage for chicks. I was wondering if any of you would be willing to give your best guess as to the breed and \ or sex of my birds. Pictures are not perfect but they did pose pretty well.

Hello, I hope this is the correct place to post this question.
I have new chicks and I was wondering if anyone could tell me the recommended vaccines in Iowa. Are there any? Do chickens need yearly vaccines, like my other animals? How about regular worming?
Thanks for any info.
We currently have 3, 2 week old chicks at home. We are planning to bring home 2, 5 week old chicks. At what age will it be safe to put them together? Should I do it right away?
Thanks
One of our 3, 1 week old chicks, I am thinking has vent gleet?
I am very new to this and I have been doing the research. She looks like the pictures I have found, but those chickens all look a lot older. But she definitely has a "messy butt".
She is also smaller than the other 2. But they...
Hello,
We are located in the center of Iowa. I (actually my teenaged daughter) have just acquired 3 chicks by way of rescue. They were purchased at an auction and then left behind because they changed their mind.
So, now we are committed and jumping in with both feet, as we tend to do.
We...
