I'm now forced to build a new coop. With the addition of our chicks coming in March. I have one of the prefab ones that works for now. I have been thinking about a pallet coop mostly because I have free access to what I would need. Has anyone one build or used one? I want to keep the prefab but...
We ordered 15 day old chicks. We only wanted 7 so a friend added 6. The order got to the min order of 15. I asked if the hatchery could label the breeds, they cannt. They told us that we should be tell them apart when we get them(March 2). I have been looking at pics of the breeds and most I do...
My son wants a colorful group of birds. We have Buff Orpingtons(4) and Black Orpington(1). The new group will be raised together from a day old. I'm not worried about mixing with the orps. He wants

My Black Orpington has been sitting ing the nest box at least once a day, sometimes chasing other hens out of all the nest boxes so she has the place to her self. Her sister was paying a few months ago. She pasted due to a bound egg. She is a year old( I cannt be sure,be the breeder is trust...
The girls got in the the sprinklers this morning, and were soaked. Those Orpingtons take for ever to dry. Out come the blow dryer. They love it. I almost think that they did it just so they could get dried.
I put in 30+ eggs in the incubator on 10/24/14. 12 are Barred rocks and the rest are a mix from the barnyard. Plan on candling them tonight. They were shipped eggs so I did check for cracks before putting them in, and was amazed that not one was cracked. They are from to different sources and...

My Black Oprington always seem to have an almost empty crop. My other birds always have a full crop at roost time. With her you can feel a small amount in the crop but not much. I have seen her eat a little and she drinks. During the day she is out scratching around with the rest and seem to be...
Does anyone know if it is normal for different types of orpingtons to lay at different rates. My buff lay 5 days a week. My black only one or two a week. Just wondering if this normal.
A friend asked me to check his chickens and this is what I found. It's one of those cheap-o coop in a box. They are crowded around the only spot the air moves. It must be bad because they were standing on the backs of each other.
Has anyone seen buff orrpington hens crossed with copper marans roo. If you have please let me know about hen color and egg color. If you pics that would be even better.
my hens love the hibcus flowers that grow around here. They have eaten all the blooms that they can reach and seem ok. I do not treat them with pesticides and I feed them to my fish and have for years. Just wondering if any of you have feed them to chickens.
my girls got in something sticky. Not sure what to do. One looks like she got sticky and took a dust bath and the has some outer fresher that are sticky. They both went in and rooster for the night. Any suggestions to take care of them in the morning, or will they pernie them selves.
My 10 year old son asked now that his girls are old enough can he make them start laying eggs? I quickly answered with "no things will happen in there own time". I thought that this would satisfy his need to to know. It did not. About an hour later his says that he has not heard them sing the...
