My girls have been doing good, starting to lay. I noticed a week or so ago an egg under the roost, then everyday afterwards. Now it seems another hen has started laying on the roost. They were all but 1 using the nest boxes and thought they would come around. Any suggestions?

I have had some hawk problems lately so I don't mind seeing the crows but is it my imagination or are they using my chickens as bait? I've a red tail and 2 coopers hawks around a lot lately and the crows have done their job mostly and chased them off. Now the crows are roosting in the trees...
I have had horrible luck with these things. I tired a homemade one first that didn't work then bought a galvanized metal one that leaked like a seive. I got a 3 gal plastic one from TSC and it did good the first time but now I can't get it to stop leaking.
I'm going to try an old scuba diving...
I have 10 10 week old chicks that have been eating medicated starter grower. Recently I started throwing cracked corn on the ground for them and let them free range now that I have the coop finished. Theyh are under trees and in a pretty dog proof fence and so far no troubles. If they run out...
You never think you have done a good enough job keeping your girls safe. They are in the coop all alone...poor girls. I may put up heat seeking missles and radar...hire mercenaries to watch over them. We'll know tomorrow....hah! I'll go out in an hour and check them.
I went to one of the threads here and read about heat and chickens, after I got advice from a friend who's girlfriend is a chicken pro, and this is what I decided.
I am building a leanto coop 8x8 for 10 chickens (for now). It will be under some pine trees ,will this help with hawk predation...
Unbelievable...they're twice as big. I have to get started on the coop tomorrow. I'm going to build an 8x8 lean to. 5 to 8 nesting boxes inside with outside access...i was going to do the ones that stick out about a foot but it looks like too much wasted space. a people door, window, pop door...
I can't find much on the White barred rock and all the chicks are black, hence a Barred Rock. My chicks are light yellow.
It's funny to compare the personality differences between two types of chick. Red Comets vs White Bared Rock. The comets go around pecking on the floor...all in the same...
I am thinking about putting straw bales around my veggie garden to keep my dog and the rabbits out. Is there any reason I couldn't let the chicks play in there on sunny days?
First, I am new to chickens. I have 4 red comet chicks and 6 white big chicks. I live in Alabama so the weather is pretty decent around here except for a good bit of rain. I plan on building the run and coop unders some pine trees for shade. The run is going to be pretty big, about 12 x 12...
Hi guys! My name is John and I'm new to chickens. I just got 4 red comet chicks and 6 White (i hate to say this) Somethings. I can't remember and I don't want to call the guy at the co-op. He said they are like Dominickers but white instead of black. I know I misspelled dominickers probably...
