I’m looking into crossing a Bielefelder (black patterned red duckwing barred) over a Delaware (black patterned silver Columbian barred). Does any have any pics of a red duckwing over a columbian to give me an idea of why they’d look like? Any info is appreciated on this, or similar, cross.
Thanks!
Are Naked Necks (Turkens) from Hoover Hatchery pure? Or do they mix them with other breeds and, given that the naked neck genes are dominant, just call the Naked Necks?
I was told these are Blue Rock. Looking further, it seems that they are the result from crossing Barred Plymouth Rocks and Blue Andalusians. Looking at these pics, one has a white ear; the other does not. Are these Blue Rocks? Is only one a Blue Rock? If so, what could the other one be? Their...
I have two Blue Cuckoo Marans. With both being blue and barred, I know they’ll produce some barred splash. Does anyone know what the barring looks like on a splash?
I was looking into crossing a Blue Cuckoo Marans with a RIR, then crossing the rooster Barred male offspring back to a RIR. The calculator says I'd get a Blue patterned Red (Incomplete) Colombian. What do these look like?
I’ve heard that, for example, Dorkings and Bresse have fine meat, while Cornish and Jersey Giants have coarse meat. I have only eaten store bought chicken and self-slaughtered Buff Orpingtons. Can someone explain the texture (and if applicable the taste) differences between Coarse and fine meat...
Has anyone experimented with creating your own Dual Purpose? Maybe crossing a Cornish with a Leghorn? Or something along the lines of a good meat bird with a good layer?
I was told that this is a Penedesenca, but I haven’t seen any that look like her. I was thinking that she could be a Silver Partridg Penedesenca. What do you all think?
With the WJGs, I understand that they’re their recessive white, which hides the black coloring. So, in regards to the black JGs, are they E/E extended black or, as Kippenjungle’s calculator shows, e+/e+ Duckwing?
I understand that for recessive whites to breed true, both parents must carry the gene (the Offspring needs two recessives to be Uni-white). For this example, we‘ll use a White Dorking and a Red Dorking. If we breed those two together, the offspring won’t be white because it‘ll only possess one...
Is there a reason that crossing breeds to create a meat bird, the Cornish roosters are over another, say Dorking, Hen? As opposed to a Dorking roo over a Cornish Hen?
Pros & Cons of this idea: I was thinking of designing my Chicken House on a slightly sloped floor with a screened drainage hole. The floor will be sealed with a few coats of an exterior marine spar varnish (like what’s used on boats). Each day, I. An open the door, rinse it out with a water hose...
I’ve been looking into the breeding of different breeds and am trying to locate the genomes of several breeds: Coronation Sussex, Red Dorking, Black Tailed Buff Marans, Black Cooper Marans, and the Scots Dumpy. I’ve looked at the calculator, but I don’t understand what sequences to input. These...
Is temperament inheritance predictable? Example: Breeding an active, flighty Deathlayer with a calm, docile Sussex. Is it completely random? Or is there a formula that can predict which temperament the chicks will inherit?
