    Deworming & what to use?

My layers have worms (assuming roundworms, long white worms). I found a few in their droppings, dewormed them 8 weeks ago with Safeguard and only saw one or two worms expelled from the deworming. I admittedly totally missed the boat on repeating 10-14 days later but really questioned if the...

    TINY kit question (picture)

We have a litter of kits about one week old. One kit I have been feeding by syringe, it is TINY. About 1/3 the size of its litter mates. It cannot really get around, if I set it on the table it just flops on its side and has a hard time getting back upright onto its sternum. It wouldn't have...

Rabbit breeding question - nesting but not pregnant?

We have four does who live together and two bucks who live separately. I put two does in with a buck (one each) and left them in for a couple of weeks. At which point I assumed the does bred and brought them back to the doe pen which includes several hutches and nesting boxes. While they were...

    Colony Raising Rabbits, anyone?

We have had a handful of Rex and mini Rex rabbits as pets for the past few years. We have breed one doe twice, her last litter was over a year ago out of which we kept three daughters and they all live together in a 12x12 horse stall with tables and huts. I have been wondering about breeding one...

    Feather loss

Could I have just one chicken molting? The other 13 look perfectly fine but this one hen is just feathers flying! I thought they were picking on her because she is a lower pecking order/less favorite flockmate but I've separated her and she continues to lose feathers.

Two questions, sudden not laying and one leg injury

    1) We moved 8 weeks ago. Our chickens used to enjoy an old horse paddock, 100x100 run surrounded by wide open fields. Now since the move they are 100% free range with access to anywhere their bird legs can go on completely wooded acreage in the National Forest here. (Locked in a safe coop at...

    Rooster behavior question

I have my first rooster, he is around 8 months old now, so I know very little about what is normal for a roo... We have 6 hens, 3 are his age, 3 are a bit older. The three older hens are his favorites and they hate him. They roost all day to keep away from him (particularly now that its winter...

    Dying chickens

Its rather long winded, I'll put the questions in bold. We bought 6 chicks fall 2018 and all but 1 remaining hen has died. They all seem to fluff up and look quietly under the weather for a few days, still eat but lay low. Then some have developed a visible weakness or neurological type look...

What breed and what gender - pictures

I bought 6 chicks from a hatchery. These birds are 4 months old now. They were supposed to be 2 Lav Orpington, one of which a rooster, I think thats correct. The rest hens, 2 white rock and then speckled sussex. I just realized I think one of the white rocks is a rooster, is that correct? And...

    OK...why the sea-foam-green poo?

One week ago I started noticing that somebody or a few somebodys has blue/green coating on their poop. Any guess as to why? These pictures make it look less colorful than it is, its quite obviously coated in blue/green. It reminds me of when pennies "turn green" - can't say as I've seen this one.

    Pyrantel dewormer dosage?

We dewormed our hens with Ivermectrin about 3 months ago. They've also been treated for Coccidia. They still seem like skimpy eaters and a little thin, I had a fecal test done and it showed what the vet called "No coccidia, but a few round worm eggs" and suggested Wazine. However the Wazine...

    Picture-Coccidiosis or no?

8ish week old chicks. They eat and drink and act normal, but we had a cocci problem when our last chicks were raised (maybe 8 months ago) for the first time ever.. But, yesterday and today we've found a few droppings like these???

    Chickens afraid of roosting heights?

I have 25-26 week old pullets, none of which will roost. They sleep huddled in a messy ball on the floor in the corner. I am thinking they should begin to lay anytime and that they really need to find their way up to the nest boxes and roosts! If I put them up there they FREAK out. They will not...

    Limping, sneezing, wet tail feathers?

In the fall we bought 6 chicks. One died that night, later lost two to coccidia. Treated and three made it. Never been good eaters though. Been about 2 drama free months with these last 3 but ive noticed one hopping a bit. Thought her foot was cold or she hurt it, I cannot see anything wrong...

Why do my 12 Week old chicks keep dieing?!?! Staggering, foul poop, weak...

I posted at the beginning of this month with a single sick chick (details and poop pics here) I'll be as brief as I can... HISTORY: Bought them from a local breeder, very nice tidy place. 9 weeks old when I bought them. One died the first night. They have lived in my tack room in the barn to...

    Sick chick!

We bought five, 8 week old chicks, two weeks ago. I was told they'd be OK in the coop (enclosed) with a heat lamp and nice bedding (in Michigan, it's cold here) but one died over night so I moved them in the barn in my insulated tack room and they've been there for two weeks. The past two days...

    Where to buy chickens?

Wasn't sure where to put this, just a thought. Weve always bought ours from TSC or any farm store with chicks. Is there a better or worse place to buy birds? Are they any healthier direct shipped from a hatchery vrs a store, vrs not hatchery/someone's farm bred chicks off from Facebook and...

    More poop questions (pic)

I have a couple of hens who have a lot of watery poop (no photo but it's just very liquid) And sometimes there is this yellow or greenish goop as in this photo. They were fecal tested neg worms and very low cocci (like, a few) Those with the watery/have poop stuck to their feathers, wet butts...

    Feed suggestion...?

I have been using Kalmbach Naturals Layer Crumbles for years with no complaints. But I keep dealing with messy hen tear ends (not quite what I'd call the pictures of gleet I've seen online) and last year for half of the year we had hens with bald butts, I used Neutrena Feather Fixer and got rid...

    Messy rear ends?

Over the past few weeks I've had girls getting messier and messier, what would cause this? No food change, no one seems to feel off but they've got some gross butts!
