I know it's probably too early....

This chick hatched on May 26th. Behavior has had me thinking cockerel since day one. The picture of him standing is a bit blurry. His parents are Welsummer rooster and SLW hen. Just curious what you think. I will of course post more pictures at a later date.

Differences between Dorking and OEGB bantams?

I am just trying to figure out which breed this bird is. The bantam part is obvious as she only weighs 18 ounces. She has 4 toes on each foot. Is she a Silver Duckwing OEGB bantam? Or is she a Silver Gray Dorking bantam? I may be wrong but I don't think Ideal was selling Dorking Bantams...

    Egg color change?

This was very odd last summer.... Maybe...my Cornish Bantam was laying both a large egg and a small egg almost every day. Very doubtful. Or, maybe something happened to change the pigment of my RSL egg. Somethings I do know. 1 The feed was the same throughout 2 The other eggs were all the...

    Humidity Question

I currently have some chicken eggs incubating. When I am ready to raise the humidity level and lockdown will the fact that I have hard water be a problem? At present humidity is staying around 40%. So far, air cell and such is on track for day 7. The reason I ask is I wonder if the residue...

    Curious what the experts think

I got these chicks a little over two weeks ago. I'm sure it is early yet on gender. I don't want to influence the opinions so will keep what I was told to myself for now. Each picture is of a different bird. Any input or opinions is appreciated.

Is this a pullet? Or is mama laying eggs again?

In a moment I will be posting a picture. The bird in that picture is 15 weeks old.plus two days. The mother is a Cornish bantam. The father- I'm not entirely sure. When the egg was fertilized I had as many as 11 possible sires around. All I can say for sure is "barnyard mix" for the...

    Question about my first eggs

The size appears out of proportion...my hands are small and so is my sink. I would guess the eggs are about 1/2 the size of a medium egg that you buy in the store. They are a pale pink/tan color. My question is which chicken is likely to have laid them? My possibilities are: One adult...

    Some help with breed please

These chicks came from the co-op. I just don't remember what the sign said they were. I remember one of the bins being marked sex-link. The yellow chicks are from that one I think. The dark one may be a Black Ausultorp. I know they are not the Cherry Eggers. Yes, I know too early to tell...

    Any chance these are hens?

I'm just wondering how early the typical pullet (RIR/Production Red) starts to get medium pink or darker comb and wattles. My three are only about 5 1/2 weeks. The pictures were taken today. Each picture is of a different bird. Also at about the same distance from the camera...

Any indications on gender with these?

This first is smaller than the other two, not even a hint of pink in the comb or wattles. The demeaner and behavior are different from the other two as well. Still quite active and no signs of poor health - just smaller. This one and the other two are often circling each other or staring...

Any Welsummer chickens in western Arkansas?

Hi, I work in Mena and live over towards Waldron. I am wanting to make contact with people close by who have Welsummer chickens. I know I don't have space right now, at least when my new chicks grow some more. At the moment 1 or 2 look to be young roosters which I don't particularly...

Do Cherry Eggers start having red in their combs and wattles at 3 weeks?

Just wondering if it is normal for Cherry Eggers to start getting the red color to their combs and wattles. Or am I dealing with 1 or more roosters. All three Below is a close-up of the one showing pink/red in other lighting. Some in put would be helpful. Thanks

chick has a cut on the foot

One of my chicks has managed to get a cut on one foot. The bleeding has stopped. I am just wondering aside from checking for infection is there anything else I need to do? Thanks

    Some help with breed please

I'll start with the ones I at least have a guess on. The picture below is of a chick from Atwoods. The store closest to me orders from Ideal. My guess is Barred Cochin because of the pattern and the feathers growing on the legs. On the next I really have no idea except it is of the...

New to the Forum and new to chickens

Hi, I've owned goats for about 8 years now, at the moment I have 10 but that changes frequently. Keeping chickens has been a "someday" project. Well, "someday" happened rather unexpectedly. Two weeks ago a neighbor showed up on my doorstep saying they were moving and did I want their...
