I have 2 week old Dominique chicks (not hatchery stock, good breeder quality).
Based off the darkness of the barring so far I'm guessing girls, and they have no comb development (I'd hope not at this young of an age!). Their legs are also very dark.
Please when saying, "Boy", "Girl", "Pullet"...
I have 2 Dominique chicks, one which I can not seen any comb spike whatsoever, the other that has a much more noticeable one.
I have no experience with dominiques, is it normal for them to be born with this, because from day 1 this chick had it.
Thank you
I recently (just yesterday in fact) added 3 more chicks to my flock of 7. I picked up 2 dominiques and 1 Hamburg (that's all he had since he's a small, but great, breeder). I've researched and found that you can, with 95% accuracy, sex link dominiques.

Hello, I have a Roll-x RX2 forced air incubator I have borrowed from school. It hasn't been used in "quite a while" my teacher said.
I set it up and got everything working, turned the one middle knob up all the way and after 14 hours the max stayed about at 96.2-96.7. This is what I was reading...
I borrowed an incubator from school that's fairly old and so they didn't know what kind of battery. Any suggestions please, I need to put eggs in ASAP. And I don't want to have to deal with getting a new thermometer since this one is designed specially for this incubator.
I've already tried...
I have a splash Maran rooster who I took out today for a bit and I noticed when he was eating for a split second a strand of mud is (clear liquid) line went down and out his beak, but it was over fast. I have not seen him showing "sick" symptoms like being inactive, he has clear eyes, he eats...
I have a blue barnevelder pullet, about 5-6 months old. We had them outside today and when we went to put them back I noticed something dramatically different about her.
Before -
After-
I have another barnevleder pullet the same age, and this has not happened to her. Is this normal...
Does anyone know of some breeders in the US, preferablly breeders in Wisconsin that breed birds based on the APA standard of perfection?
I've heard of Greenfire Farms, since that seems to be a popular breeder, and I'm not looking for hatcheries (which breed for quanity, not quality).
I'm enter a...
For my project I will be showing chickens for the first time, and I would like help selecting which chickens will be good candidates for showing, and also some links to the standards for my breeds.
I have:
Maran cockerel
Double laced barnevelder pullet x2
Amerecuana (cockerel with color leakage)...
So about a week or two ago I took my boy out onto the driveway and after walking normally for a few seconds he started jumping/slipping/sliding/lifting his feet iradictly around him.
I thought maybe it was because there might have been salt thrown down, but today again I set him out in the...
This is Artemis:
Artemis is about 4-5 months old, and I'm 100% sure he's a boy.
What I'm not 100% sure on is whether or not he's all Amerecauna, or mixed?
The breeder I got him from does breed EE's, but Artemis has always looked Amerecauna until about a month ago when these feathers came...
I have about a 10 week old chicken that was a "for sure girl" told by the breeder. In the last week or so mostly in the mornings when we open the door to check on them she makes a weird goose like honking noise, it doesn't sound like a crow, and doesn't carry like one. She's really friendly and...
This is doodle, a splash barnevelder which who I got at only 2-4 days old on Oct 11tj, so he/she is about 3-4 weeks old. There is the beginning of a comb that is really pale in color.
This is Artemis. He's a black maran, and his comb is already pretty red in color although it isn't very big...
I have a salmon faverolles chick about 3-5 weeks old (how to tell using feathering because they're molting) She drinks water, eats (though not as much) is active, not always sleeping. She doesn't seem sick, and still follows and sleeps with others. The only problem I'm noticing is the poop. When...
I have a 1-3 week old chick, and she stopped chirping awhile ago. She occasionally chirps if I go to pick her up. She sticks her head in the air and closes her eyes, opening and closing her beak. The others are all laying down sleeping, but she won't? Is there food stuck in her throat, or...
I have 8 chicks that I got from a local breeder, she has a lot and doesn't really keep track of age(of course) and I'm curious, and it'll help me decide when they should be nearing the age when they can move outside. This one is a blue splash barnevelder. Only feathers are on the tip of the...

We're about 20% done with the coop right now. It's 48 sq ft, and we'll have 4-7 chickens making their home in the coop. It's behind our house in a wooded area and raised 4 feet off the ground for predator protection. They'll be 2 doors for shoveling out poo and letting them out and we're not...
So I'll be going to a farm Sunday the 11th, and I already have my breeds and the money I'll need selected. I have the feed, the box, the waterer and feeder, just need the pine shavings and the chicks! BUT.. there's one problem. I can't afford to deal with sick chicks/potentially future sick...
