    Columbian Rock Cross Roo question

I have a 13 week old CRC who is huge with a reddish comb, but no brown feathering which would indicate male. I have heard that their combs grow early and not to sex by comb growth. Can anyone tell me when do the males develop their brown feathers? Right now I'm just waiting and watching to see...

    Sharing nest box?

Twice I have found 2 hens sitting in the same box together. One is a BO and the other is a SLW. It looks like the BO is in the box first and the SLW joins her (unknown if it's the same BO as we have 3, but it's definitely the same SLW. They both lay an egg :-)

    Poop board suggestions

We are almost done with the main coop build. It's a 6X6 coop with a 6X12 run. I plan on having 2 roosts, 6ft long each located on the front and back walls. I want to put in poop boards but I don't want to make them too heavy to remove as I won't be able to enter the coop to get them (they would...

    Preventing bees/wasps in coop

During the summertime we sometimes have a problem with bees/wasps. We get rid of the hive and forget about it after. I don't know if hardware cloth is small enough to block them and I don't want to have them building a hive in the coop. Should we line the vents with screening also? Is there...

    ventilation ideas

We are planning on building a 4X6 lean to coop in the next 2 weeks. The front will have a 2'X3' slider window above the nest boxes. I was thinking of putting vents on the back of the coop near the roofline that would go the length of the coop. The rear of the coop will face our vinyl stockade...

    Run roofing question

I'm in the process of buying my building materials for our coop/run. It will be a 4X6 coop with a shingled roof and a 6X12 run with a polycarbonate roofing system. My question is about sizing for the polycarbonate roofing and my 6 foot wide run. Would I need overhang with the run roofing? The...

We are finishing up designing a 4X6 coop. What size access door would you recommend. the height of the coop goes from 6.5 at the front to 5.5 in the back (this includes a 2ft base).I initially was planning on a 2.5'X2.5', would that be large enough or should I go to 3X3?, I want to run roost...

Need to have neighbors sign a letter of intent...

After contacting our city hall and dept of health to determine the laws regarding keeping backyard chickens in our city, we were told to that their policy was to have anyone who wishes to have chickens is required to get their neighbors to approve by signing a simple letter of intent. That there...

Starting to design our new coop

We are getting 6 pullets in June (don't have the space at the moment to raise them from chick). My brother is helping build our coop. I was planning on using the Coops for a cause 4X6 as our inspiration for our coop. My question is for the run. Given the 10sq ft per chicken I was planning on...
