I have a SLW rooster that is a pretty rough fellow when it comes to the girls. Some bloody heads, combs and getting real close to the eyelids. Is there a rooster that is very mellow and calm. My rooster attacks each hen as it gets down off of the roost!!
Any ideas please?
I have a sweet RIR hen that goes around picking everyone elses feathers out. She just walks up real slow and looks at the lower back area on the other 12 hens and pulls their feathers out...eating some of them. Their diet is superb, so it is not a deficience.

My husband and i were thinking about going to the Columbus Nationals to see and enjoy all the chickens. A while back i had read on here that you get covered with mites and lice and to make sure you shower a couple of times before you go to see your own flock. Is this really a big concern...
I have one RIR that is a feather picker. She goes from chicken to chicken trying to jerk out a feather on their lower backs! Then she eats them. They are fed very well. So i know its not a protein problem. What should i do?

Should i be worried? There was a little steak of blood on her shell. All my hens seem to struggle when they lay their eggs. Is there anything to give them to make laying eggs easier?
I sit in my new clean coop on a padded seat and watch my girls take turns laying eggs. They have just been laying for the last few weeks so i am so fascinated and wanting to know who lays what egg. My Black aussie had been laying these really dark brown eggs for a couple of days then no more...
