I started with 12 fertile eggs. 5 hatched on day 24, 2 hatched on day 25, and 2 more hatched early this morning (day 26). Hatched 9 out of 12 so far.
For context, the guinea hen did not go in the coop one night, so we went and found her on a nest. She usually gives up after a week to 10 days...
Our guinea wasn't in the coop last night and we found her sitting on a nest. We put her in the coop and brought the eggs inside to potentially incubate.
We've let her sit several times and she gives up after a few days, so they don't stand much of a chance under her.
Unfortunately, it's...
Has anyone tried one of these? I see several sites selling the same style under different names. Wondering if it's a decent product or cheap China junk...
We have a rooster that is approx 1-1/2. He's been a nice rooster until the last 3-4 months.
I have parrots and have one that is a male that will bite during the months with longer days, I'm told because he's frustrated when it's mating season. The remedy is to cover the cage for at least 12...
Anyone here have experience showing for 4H? I'm curious how well our rooster will do at the 4-H fair with a comb defect. He got frostbite this winter (he had adequate access to shelter with a heat lamp, but chose not to use it) and the tip of his comb turned black and fell off. :-( Photo...
I have a flock of 19 free range (during the day) chickens of a variety of breeds. They are digging holes on the edges of the lawn for dustbathing and my husband is annoyed. He says they're ruining the lawn (although the grass has grown back in the spots they have dug out previously, it IS a...
We have a week old chick who started limping on one leg yesterday. I have separated him and put him (or her) in with one other chick who seems to be very gentle with him as the others were just running all over him and knocking him down. Does anyone know why he might be doing this or how I might...
I have 3 guineas. I had 4, one was killed by a dog. :(
2 are from the same clutch and are attached at the hip. The other (and the deceased one) were from another clutch, about 2 weeks younger. I think the pair are both male and the outsider is female. She walks around calling"buckwheat" a...
So... we're newbie chicken owners and one of my Buff Orpingtons had a prolapsed vent with an egg in it today. After watching a few videos, I tried soaking. I tried to find the opening for the egg to come out and I tried pushing the egg back in. The hen was pretty tolerant of all of this...
We are preparing for the 4H fair, planning on showing a pen of 3 (2 pullets 1 cockerel) and a single pullet. However, I'm concerned 2 of the pullets are not pullets. :-/ I don't want my son to get in front of the judge and find out we were wrong.
1. Pullet
2. Pullet?
3. Pullet?
4...
When researching chicken tractors and deciding what to build, I came upon a post where the person had built a separate enclosure that was in sight of the rest of the flock. I can't find it now, of course. They kept their small chicks in there so they could get used to and learn from the older...
We have two chickens we bought at the local feed store as chicks. They we're supposed to be all pullets, but the brown one seems to be a lot different both in the shape of the tail, the way he stands, and his actions. I'm just wondering if he might be a rooster. The beige one acts more like...
I have wanted chickens for a long time. I finally talked my husband into raising chickens for my son's 4H project this year. We got 4 Plymouth Barred Rock, 2 Americauna, and 4 Buff Orpington. They are 3 weeks old now and we are working on the chicken tractor. They need to go outside...
I'm thinking I have 4 Pullets. 3 weeks old. Legs all have dark on front, but to varying degrees. I hope the pictures are good enough. They really didn't care for my phone being so close to them. LOL
In the batch is also 4 Buff Orpington and 2 Americauna (sp?) if anyone has a guess on those.
