    First lay for button quail

So far She has laid 3 eggs all in different spots. I put a small nest box in and placed the eggs in it. They go in and out, especially the male. It seems that he is trying to coax her into going in the nest. Is his common for first lying hens? Will the hen eventually sit on them? Thanks. Dave

    Home Made Cage

This is one of 2 cages I made. They are 120 Quart plastic containers, 28" long x 16" wide x 15" high. I used a glue gun to glue window screen on the top and used 1/2" square wire for the front. Works well and the quail seem to b happy. Dave.

    Female chasing male

The two button quail were doing fine, except the last couple of days the female is chasing the male around the cage and keeps pecking at him. Could this be a sign on stress. I have had them for 3 weeks and they were originally raised outside (about 8 or so weeks old). They lay together all the...

    Mating Displays??

I have had my button quail about 4 weeks and figure they are about 12-14 weeks, not sure. Anyway, I saw something this morning I have not seen before. The male started to do a low growl and semi-squat and kept peck and chasing the female behind the log and plants I set up. Anyone familiar with...

    Grain Grinder

Last week I bought a grain grinder at Tractor Supply, works great for grinding up grit, oyster shell and grain. $30.00 + free ship to store. I watched the button quail eat and the chunks were to big, I could see It while they were pecking away. The grinder is adjustable so you can pretty much...

    Lighting for my Button Quail

I have been reading a lot of info on poultry lighting and the affects it has on growth, laying hatching and health. I found a couple of sites regarding poultry farming in Arkansas (and other places) which was interesting to me. It seems that research over a 2 year period or so that led lighting...
