My little rabbit is about 11 weeks old now. I bought her at Rural King, they said they got her from a local 4-H girl, and they think she is lionhead, or lionhead and mini rex, or lionhead and lop ear. Any ideas? Also, she is doing really great at only peeing in her litterbox (no worries, I'm...
At what age can I switch my chicks from their towel floor to pine shavings? I do deep litter with the adults but I'm not sure how it goes with chicks. They're 9 and 10 days old now and I would really like to switch them to regular shavings instead of towels.
I got some money toward a new incubator because we are having all kinds of issues with our Little Giant 9300 - temperature spikes and dips no matter what we try with the settings, that has either cooked the eggs or gotten them too cold or both. I'm giving up on it.
I am looking at the Brinsea...
I'm researching Brinsea incubators because I got money to buy one for my Christmas present! What is the difference between the Mini Advance and the Mini II Advance? They both have temperature displays and automatic egg turning. Is it just the humidity display and the external humidity top off...
One of the females made a little circular nest spot in the shavings and has somehow gathered the 3 eggs laid today, and was sitting there on them when I went to feed them. She ate and went right back to them so I left the eggs. Should I do anything else for her? Leave food or water near the nest?
I added a solid floor and pine shavings, then put the quail back in and they are so happy! Dust bathing, scratching for food, making little circular nest looking things in the shavings! I am going to add in some low walls and then I can do actual deep litter but I wanted to see how they reacted...
I'm looking at getting a couple chickens to keep indoors in our garage in a coop. We have coturnix quail but I won't keep them together because I've read about the infections that can happen, so the chickens would be in their own coop. I'm wondering what small breed is very friendly? Obviously I...
Are there any breeds of chickens that could be kept in a coop indoors (large garage) and aren't super loud? Our city ordinances say we can have chickens only if they're at least 150 feet from any of our neighbors and don't cause a noise disturbance. The only way we can do that is by keeping them...
The first eggs I put in the incubator are from 11/16. There were 2 eggs - 1 is all dark except the air cell, 1 all lights up. I threw out the empty one, but how much longer do I give the one with an air cell? Eggs from 11/21 are wiggling now (so they're on lockdown and day 17 today) and still...
We currently have a 2x4 coop, so 8sqft of space, and 6 birds (5F/1M). I keep saying our new coop - we are going to try deep litter instead of wire floor - needs to be larger, more like 18-20sqft for up to 20 birds. He is insisting that each adult quail only needs 1/4 square foot, and we can put...
