Hello! I'm looking for 5 or 6 EE or Ameraucana hens in the north TX (Fort Worth) area. Prefer local pickup within the greater Fort Worth or Weatherford TX area.
5 barnyard mix roosters. Hatched 3/19/2011 and hand raised. 3 easter egger cross, 1 polish cross, and 1 barred rock cross. Located in North Central Texas (west of Fort Worth).
I went out of town on friday and returned today; my house sitter forgot to collect eggs
I came home to a young hen sitting on 31 eggs, but i really don't want her to hatch any. Are these eggs OK to eat? I'm a little weirded out that she's been sitting on them for 5 days.
My chicks will be 4 weeks this weekend.....I have a few doing the "dance" - you know it....the chest bump, flapping wings dance......I'm thinking Roos? Please tell me they're just playing?!?
I hatched 13 chicks on 3/19. I'm DYING to know what they are (i.e. who I can get REALLY attached to) - any tips or guidelines for telling roos from pullets? Some are really starting to feather out and some don't have as many...
I have been missing a hen for 2 days, and we saw her today, briefly. I believe she's gone broody under our horse trailer! Darn her for not doing this IN the COOP!
Can I move her? She's under cover but any ol' skunk or other predator (of which we have many) could get to her now.
What do I...
Well, I have had a tough week....I lost 2 hens. I found one dead in my front yard and never found the other one....until TODAY! She's sitting on eggs (I think) under our horse trailer!! Of course, I can't reach her. My husband said he thought he'd seen her out briefly in the yard today (that's...
I let my chickens free range by day, but they are locked up at dusk. They have ALOT of cover (in horse stalls, under trailers, under barn overhang, etc. etc.) but I keep losing them! Seems like they get picked off one by one....I've lost two this week. I live in a rural area and we have every...
SOMETHING is taking my chickens down one by one. I've lost 2 this week (found one in the yard - intact, and one went missing tonight....I know she won't make it out there alone). The problem is that I don't know what I'm dealing with. We have dogs that run loose, feral cats, skunks, coyotes...
I'm wondering if its ok to put sand from outside my house in my brooder. Right now they are on shavings and paper towels.....but I keep seeing people post about using sand and it sounds like a great idea. We have SUPER sandy soil here, and I'm wondering if I could use that....??
Do the eggs need to be able to roll around while they hatch? I have two pipping, and it seems like they are the ones in the middle of all the eggs.....just wondering!
Its lockdown day for me. I was worried about setting the eggs straigt down on the wire mesh (they've been in a turner in my LG still air) so I have them in egg cartons. I took the egg cartons, cut the tops off, and basically inverted them. The eggs are sitting in the "trays" made by the tops...
I'm on day 15 of my first time incubating. I candled today (not all but a few) and I see dark masses and veins in all of them but didn't really see any movement. Is that bad? Should I be seeing movement all the time?
I have 18 eggs set to hatch two weeks from today. I candled today and saw movement in 17/18, so I feel like that is pretty good! I work full time M-F, and I'm just wondering how long the newly hatched chicks can stay in the incubator (in case they start early and hatch on friday??) I just hope...
I set eggs on Saturday night at 8pm. Now it's just past 72 hours and I want to see something! I "test candled" a few and I'm starting to see veins....in some it seems like the yolk is moving around as I turn the egg?? Is that OK? This is my first time incubating anything.
