Hi there,
I’ve recently been hatching some Silkie Cross ISA Browns. About 3 months ago I hatched 2 Roos that looked much like their ISA brown mother just with a little more white fluff, they were beautiful boys and I would have loved to see them grow up, but alas have now been rehomed, I’ve...
I have the most amazing hatching story I’ve ever experienced!
My broody was sitting on 6 eggs, 2 of them hatched no problems, but when I checked the next day she had abandoned the remaining 4 and they were stone cold. One of them was half way hatched but there was no sign of life, and another...
Hi all,
My broody is currently on day 14 of an incubation, and in a general nest box where the others can still lay eggs that she steals! My friend has asked for some of my fertile eggs. So I rescued 2 New volunteered eggs from under her this afternoon to take away and give to my friend...
Hi,
I've had 2 broody mommas brooding at the same time, one of them raised her chicks within the flock, the other one is raising her baby in a maternity enclosure within the main coop.
The maternity coop is totally visible to the others, so I didn't think there would be a problem. Infact most...
I bought two new babies yesterday for one of my broody mummas. it's been challenging because although I was told they were a couple of days old, when I picked them up, they were at least 6, which is pushing it for sneaking them under a broody. But I still went with it, this broody mumma is a...
i have a broody sitting on 4 eggs at the minute, three are a cross between my Ameraucana and my Silkie Roo, the other one is a pure silkie. We are on day 19 and I've just heard peeping coming from one of the eggs.
I'm really excited to see the first crosses of my own birds.
I don't have any...
Okay, I have 2 Silkie brothers that are currently 23 weeks old. I've watched them doing their little mating dance to my ladies and I've also seen them mounting my ladies, however, the ladies they pick to mate are my big dual purpose girls and they don't seem able to reach!!
They hold onto the...
My beautiful white Ameraucana has laid me her first egg at 20 weeks, and it's a beautiful blue and very small. I'm really proud of her! How ridiculous of me! Haha!
hi there,
My 2 BO are now 10 weeks old and their combs and wattles have not redened or grown at all. Is it safe to start thinking of them as female yet? Or am I still too early to be sure? They have been the trickiest breed I've had to sex, even the Silkies were easier to work out!
Thanks guys.
Hi all,
I have 2 BOs 8 weeks old and I was so sure these 2 were boys, now after looking online, and on here, I think maybe they could be pullets. What do you think? The reason I thought boys was because of their slow feathering, but as they've matured they don't appear to have any combs to...
Hi all,
My Polish, who is about 6 weeks old. I was thinking girl, mainly because of the speed with which she feathered, but I'm no expert. Any ideas? Thank you.
Just went out to check on them and found my only female buff Orpington chick (2 weeks) with its head stuck in the fence and obviously no longer alive. She was still warm. If only id gone out 10 minutes earlier i might have been able to save her :hit its not fair!! i felt really sad carrying her...
So we're having a bit of a nasty storm here at the moment, wind, rain and cold and it's been most of the day and night. I just had a thought at about 9pm to make sure all my babies were tucked up in bed. And I'm so glad I went, my 3 eight week old Silkies were sheltering under the coop, ringing...
So my amazing broody has hatched 4 out of 6 eggs. But the last 2 it appears have now been abandoned. She took her 4 babies out into the broody run today and left the eggs up in the coop all day, so I'm guessing they are no longer viable? The other 4 hatched pretty early, so I was suspicious of...
It's the same baby in all 3 pics and 1 day old. I've looked up pics online about male and female puffs on the top of their head! But still can't really tell. Anyone like to hazard a guess? TIA
i was given blue eggs to hatch and was told they were Australian Araucana, only 1 hatched so I have nothing to compare to. I'm not too fussed about breed but was so sure she was a boy for a while, now I think I could be lucky and she could be a pullet?? What do you think? 7 weeks old now.
Help!
I let my broody out for a stretch this evening and at some point after letting her out, the door had swung shut to the broody coop and she couldn't get back in. I didn't know this and just got on with my own stuff and just now when I went to check that my 6 week olds had put themselves to...
I currently have 4 chicks 5.5 weeks old. 3 Silkies and 1 Araucana. I reckon I've got the Silkies worked out (2 boys and 1 girl) but I just can't get the Araucana! I thought boy all along, but now I'm not so sure. Help?
