    Broody in winter?

My muscovy seems to have gone broody. Is that possible? I have been moving her eggs and putting them in the fridge, but now wonder if that was a mistake. Can I take them out of the fridge and put them back in her nest? Is it possible for her to hatch them in the winter? I'm in CA so it's...

    Blue Sweden duck changing color

My blue Swedish duck is molting and as her new feathers grow they are white, when she originally was a dark grey. Her entire head is white now. I adopted her last year and was told she was a year old, but I don't believe that because her feathers are quite tatty and her bottom drags on the...

    molting duck being attacked

My welsh harlequin duck was starting to mold and then also started getting attacked by the other ducks. Im not sure if they've pulled out her new feathers or old. She looks a mess, her wings totally raw and messed up. I've sprayed her with bluekot and separated her. Why would they do this...

    Plucked duck

Three of my boys plucked all of the feathers out of the back and neck of my fourth boy overnight. It is really bad, very raw and sore looking. I have separated him, and the other boys are being rehomed today (was always the plan). How long before I can safely release him with my other ducks...

    Ducklings with bald spots

I have some 4 week old muscovy ducklings, and they roam with my mixed flock of 10 other ducks. However, they are all getting bald spots above their tail feathers, and I see the other ducks (even their mama duck) pecking at them and pulling out their fluff. Should I separate them? Is this...

    Miracle baby!!!!

Look at this miracle! This Muscovy baby hatched on Monday and couldn't move its head or stand. Its head was curled underneath and I thought it wouldn't survive and was deformed. I was terrified of the options I seemed to have. And then, the next morning, when I had to make a decision, it...

Duckling not doing well - please advise...

My eggs hatched! Four so far! One duckling is not doing well though, it's as if it can't lift its head up and is all floppy and not alert. The other three are perky and chirping. Is there anything I can do for it?

    Muscovy eggs not developing?

I set some fertilized eggs under my muscovy on June 26th, so they should be ready to hatch any day. However, when I candle them they only look like the embryo is taking up about half of the egg. Does that mean that they stopped developing, or have I got the dates wrong? I haven't ever got...

    Limping duck

My blue Swedish female duck started limping today, and holding up one foot. I can't see anything except her knee looks white, but I have to say Ive never examined a duck's leg so closely before, so it may always look like this. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated (see pics). Thanks!

10 week old ducks already fertilizing eggs!?

Is this the norm? I gathered a few eggs the other day and when I cracked them open, they were very definitely fertilized and had visible embryos. I didn't know they mated this early, but these are my only boys. I only even know they're boys cos they have suck a quiet little whispery quack...

Hard red spots on muscovy duck.

I just saw these spots on my muscovy when she was having a bath. What are they? She also looks like she is a little red under her tail feathers. Ive noticed she's molting at the moment. Brief history - she was broody, the eggs didn't hatch and she adopted the ducklings I gave her who are...

Need help with complicated incubation and adoption scenario please

I have a broody duck sitting on hatching eggs that don't appear (to my novice eye) to be developing. The eggs would be due to hatch on April 7th if they were to hatch. feeding/water set ups

Could anyone post me a photo of their feeding and water set ups for their ducks? I just have mine in big bowls and don't feel it's very hygienic or efficient. I have only seen chicken feeders. Also, what should I buy for ducklings I will hopefully have in the next few days? They'll be...

    Duckling care

If any of my ducklings hatch, would it be a good idea to bring them and their mama into the house for a while? Its still about 47 degrees F here. I have a large guinea pig cage they could all live in for a few weeks. Or are they okay because they're with their mama?
