Hello Everyone -
I live in Upstate NY - south of Albany. I am looking for fertile eggs to put under my broody hen. I have a small flock of gals (24) and one roo. Evidently Lou is unable to keep up with his girls. :) When I candled the eggs my broody hen is sitting on (day 10) only one...
Good Evening All -
I am looking for fertile eggs for hatching that I can pick up that are near the Albany, NY area. My preferenaces are Copper Maran, Easter Egger, Olive Egger, Ameraucana, Araucana, Cream Legbar.

Good morning everyone
We are having some frigid weather here in the northeast. This morning I noticed a couple of my hens had some frozen poo on their bum. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? Should I leave it, try to soak it off, cut it???
Hi All -
Despite keeping my coop very clean - somehow my chickens got lice. I noticed them on my big white rooster and his mate. I assume that means everyone has them. I just can't understand it. I rake the ran, remove old feathers, turn the bedding and scrape the roosts EVERY DAY...
I have 4 lovely roosters I would like to re-home.
Silver laced Orpington (3/2017)
Salmon Favorelle (5/2019)
Sussex Coronation show rooster (3/2018)
Unknown little fella (5/2019)
All-
Last week I posted a couple of pics of my baby chicks wondering if they were boys or girls. Here’s a new couple of new pics. I feel pretty sure the one is a pullet. But what about the other? Thoughts? Good guesses?
I have a hen that up until yesterday was happy enough running around. First, I noticed yesterday evening she was just sitting on the driveway. I thought this was weird because the driveway is blacktop and all her friends were enjoying pecking around in the fresh grass or scratching in the...
Good Morning All
I have such a dilemma. On 5/5/19 I put 10 eggs under my broody hen. She’s been a real champ at setting in them. This is my first broody hen experience. On 5/12/19 - my elderly mother in law decided to collect eggs. She never collects eggs She collected ALL OF THEM! When my...
Hi all
Dave the Rooster is King of the roost with 17 hens in his harem. He “does his thing” quite regularly with whomever he catches up with. I found this week that I now have a broody hen who is sitting on her eggs as well as several other eggs she gathered.
In your opinion do you think at...
Good Afternoon Everyone and Happy Spring
I have a 1 year old Maran hen who I noticed on Sunday had a crop that was droopy and hanging down really low. From what I read online, this might be a pendulous/sour crop. So I took her out of the flock, massaged the crop so she emptied it (sort of) and...
Good Morning All -
In Upstate NY we are having a frigid windy below zero (wind chill) weather. Dave the Rooster (Coronation Sussex) has a very high comb and very long waddle and he's a really large fella. Late last week he started getting a little frostbite. This morning - it was super bad...
Hi All -
Up until today - I have not lost a single chicken to a predator. Today - I cam home to a dead 8 month old hen. There are a lot of feathers - all of them missing from her neck. Her head was "pecked up" (ewwee) and the rest of her was in tact. When I picked her up to prepare to bury...
Good Evening All -
I have a large 6x8 walk in coop, a 12 ft or so enclosed run and then another TSC coop at the other end. In essence two coops with an enclosed run between them. The run has a roof. All summer a couple of the chickies would fly up to the support beams inside the run and perch...
Good Afternoon Friends!
I have 5 chicks I hatched Labor Day weekend. The went from the kitchen under a lamp to the garage under the lamp. Then finally - just the garage with no lamp about a month ago. They are good sized and feathered out. I have been putting them outside during the day -...
Do you think I should close up the hatch door during the winter time? I have 21 chickens in a large walk-in coop my husband built last winter. I made so many mistakes last year including shutting them all in because I thought they would be cold, heating the coop, hanging the water inside and...
My hen lost a lot of her back feathers thanks to Bob the rooster. I had an apron on her but it was just to hot. I’ve moved Bob out to his own run for multiple reasons this being one of them. Anyway - I noticed that her feathers are slowly returning and also noticed this strange raised gray color...
