    Christmas lights and ducks

Anyone have any experience Christmas lights on their duck’s house? Saw some decorated chicken coops on another thread. I’ve read they aren’t bothered much by noise, which explains why they don’t seem fazed when we loose power and have to run a generator. I was thinking of putting some non...

    Catching wild a wild duck

There's a mill pond near my house, home to many wild ducks and some Canadian geese. One of the young mallards has a fishing lure stuck in his bill. He is able to eat and drink, and it's been there for at last 2 weeks. I have made 5 attempts to corner him into some dog gates that I have. The...

    Humor: Very heavy Pekin.

I was going through some paperwork today, and found this in Scooters vet records. Now that's a large breed duck!

    Dead eggs?

Can anyone tell if these eggs are still alive. This is day 21/22 and it seems to me they’ve stopped developing. Sorry for the bad pics, they’re not very photogenic. There’s grey spots down at the bottom, and no movement. Thanks!

    Duck eye infection?

Hi Everyone! I have a partially blind 5 year, pekin duck with a really gross drippy eye, everything I see online doesn’t look as goopy as Marco’s eye. He’s eating, breathing normally, but is a bit lethargic. Here’s a pic of what it looks like. I’m planning on calling the vet Monday, but should...

Ducks and Mental Health (yours, not theirs!)

Hi everyone! This part of a post in another thread got me thinking, it's by Gilberta's mom, @Kkrista123 : I never knew growing up that my young adulthood would be so important to me from the animals I have by my side. I already resent the day everything changes. I hope you guys can experience...

    Flock dynamics question

Hi everyone! I have 2 flocks, my famous wonderful 4 boys in one, and a backwards trio of 2 drakes and one hen. The Pekin drake Marco, is partially blind. The other drake, Polo, is a mallard. The hen, Ruby is kahki Campbell. They don’t over mate her, and she has a shelf that she hangs out in to...

    Puffed up ducks.

So my bachelor flock has just been reunited and the fighting has subsided. There’s still little spats, but no knock down drag outs. They do this a lot lately. We call it “puffed up duck”. Anyone know what it means, If anything? Bill, my black runner doing the runner version of puff up.

Feeling guilt about locking ducks up all day

Hi everyone! I've had the luxury of not working in the Summer for the last 8 years. I have an interview for a better full time job (now I have a very flexible full time job) but I'm worried about my quackers. Does anyone else leave their ducks in their secure run all week? My 2 pekin and 2...

    City Duck Rescue

Last night a friend texted us about a lone duckling that had fallen out of a nest in a building. They contacted us because we're duck guys, and they met our ducks before. We happened to be in the same city at a cookout. The duckling was trying to snuggle with our friend, and kept chasing...

    New (to me) ducks!

Hi everyone, Yesterday was a busy day, as we had some new additions to our family. Marco, 5 y/o pekin, Polo, a 5 year old mallard, and Ruby, a 2 year old Kahki Campbell. My existing flock is four drakes, 2 pekin and 2 runners. They are in their own house, separated in pairs. The new ones...

    Ducks at night.

Hi Everyone! As some may know, I have 4 drakes. 2 Pekins and 2 runners. This is their first summer all together. Last winter when everyone got along, they lived in their large house. Since it's breeding season, they fight. Pekin vs runner. The pekin usually win. The run is divided so they...

    Geese in the city

Hi Goose people! I went into the city today (Boston/Cambridge, MA) to see the doctor. I used to work near there and scooted in to visit some of my favorite places. One of them is a flock of domestic geese on the Charles River, that I stumbled upon while kayaking a few years ago. There was...

Bachelor flock living next door to a pair?

Merry Christmas everyone. So A young Muscovy pair showed up on Perfinder this morning. I have 4 drakes, 2 runner and 2 pekin, who get along in winter and are seperated in the summer. If I got this pair and housed them seperately would this work? Or would it just be fighting year round. Its...

    Spot on Pekin's Bill

I noticed a spot on the end of one of my pekin's bill today while I was soaking his feet. Searching around I found ducks that get little freckles but could not find anything that looked like this. Hoping it's not anything serious.

    Hot Ducks!

It's about 91 degrees here. Definitely warm for fat pekins. We are dealing with it as best we can!

    Adopting ducklings from the pound

These little guys, or girls, are available to be adopted. I may be going to check them out this week. Anyone know how old they are? I'm told they are Pekins, like my original drakes. I know they'll have to be seperated from my original boys, and I will need to rehome if they're girls. They were...

Expanding my flock; Should I get ducks or keep all drakes?

I currently have a pair of 1 year old Pekin drakes, that I got from the pound, my first and only ducks. They're brothers and started fighting each other since breeding season started. I keep them separated, but visible to each other, they are only together when supervised, because otherwise...

    Drakes behaving badly

So I've read many threads about drakes fighting, but not much on all drake flock fights. I have 2, 1 year old Pekin drakes that I adopted from a shelter. As far as I know they are brothers. Usually they are very calm and playful. This week they have taken to fighting (each other never me)...
