I found half a dozen of these gorgeous chicks, as well as a few black copper marans, in the clearance bins at Rural King (the "oh, crap they're flying now, sell them quick" bin), so unfortunately nobody knew what they were. They have feathered feet and big attitudes.
What do you think?
Picked these precious fluffs up the other day out of the "Americana" bin at TSC. The blue/black/splash chicks had foot feathering so grabbed five of those. None have muffs or pea combs.
What do you think? The blue and black almost look Marans to me, so I was thinking possibly Olive...
We can't figure out what he is. Definately a bantam as he's smaller than same-aged silkies. Thought maybe cochin due to his leg feathering, but he doesn't look like our other cochins. He's very flighty, so it was a miracle I actually got these photos.
This little guy was hatched a couple days ago by my Ameraucana, and then she tried to kill him (she decided to kill everyone but her solid black chicks) so I'm his momma now. Not her chick biologically, and mom is most likely my Rhode Island Red judging by the red coloration, unless one of my...
I'm hatching my first clutch of eggs due out of the eggs September 5th.
Blue dot and Red dot eggs are from my BSL Barred Rock and Rhode Island Red cross hens, Sharkie and Rexy. The 3 Sharkie chicks I'm hoping will be black like mom and develop her signature purple sheen, assuming their daddy...
Our new property is not quite ready for horses yet, but we are eager to get our fencing up to par. We will be adopting untamed BLM mustangs next time they roll through Florida. Does anyone have experience with holding wild horses in?
We have 3 and a half acres to secure.
Current fence is 4' 3...
I just purchased a home in the country with a few acres. My flock is adjusting well to the extra space, although we lost one of our beloved little D'Uccle roosters to what I'm assuming was a fox. We broke the door to our run during the move and unfortunately had not had a chance to fix it yet...
One of my young pullets just ran underneath me chasing food, and I caught her head/neck when I accidentally stepped on her. She's alive, but immediately started writhing and blood came out of one of her nostrils. She's holding her eyes closed, but opens them periodically, and can't seem to hold...
One of my Silver Laced Wyandotte hens is frequently beating the snot out of both my roosters to the point that they are afraid to go near any of the hens. They are getting quite frustrated dancing for them and then running away in fear. I never expected a hen to be any match for a rooster, let...
We got a box of babies yesterday morning from My Pet Chicken. We got 6 Black Australorps, 2 Rhode Island Reds, and 2 assorted rare pullets. I think I know what breeds the 2 mysteries are, but can anyone confirm?
I believe this is a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, which is great because I have 3...
Buzz Lightyear has a habit of crowing at midnight when he hears the neighbors come home, so we are trying a collar to see if he crows a little softer. Of course I had to add a bowtie.
I want to make a bowtie for Sheriff Woody as well, but he is such a good boy that I dont want to bother him...
We have decided to order from My Pet Chicken this year to finish our flock, but I dont want to make the mistake of getting the wrong breed.
My current chickens:
3 Silver Laced Wyandotte Hens
2 Black Sex Link Hens
2 Belgian D'uccle Roosters
I'm not a huge fan of the SLWs because they are...
I'm so fascinated by chicken genetics! Two of my 7mo BSL hens have very small black combs and wattles. One is slightly mottled. Is there a particular breed or gene that would cause this?
My other 7mo BSL "Rexy" has a very normal big red comb and big wattles and has since she was...
The other night I had a come-to-Jesus-meeting with a raccoon in my backyard at 3am, but I'm not confident he got the message. The dogs woke me up, so ran out to find a huge, fat, 30ish pound raccoon on my porch. He was very reluctant to leave, even after a few swats with my broom and a very...
We just picked up some new additions, but were not given the breed. :idunno
All we know is that they are 2 week old batam pullets and their legs are feathered. I couldn't pass up the gray chick. They all have poopy butts, so definitely getting some TLC when we get home.
I'm not good with...
Any tips on keeping my pullets from hopping the fence and visiting the neighbor's yard? I like to have them free ranging on my property, but lately a couple have gotten brave and I don't want anyone thinking a free dinner walked into their yard. I have a privacy fence, so they are flying 6 ft up...
My mystery black chicks have gotten big!
We are still speculating breed. Some people have said EE and RIR cross, which could explain the small waddles and combs? Others say sex links, and now we are wondering if they are Black Copper Marans or crosses to make olive eggers? They are almost 20...
The story starts with me walking into TSC to buy some chicks for the first time. I asked what breeds were in the assorted pullet bin, and the girl acted like she didn't know how to pronounce any of them. I asked if some were Silver Laced Wyandotte and she said yes, so I asked for 6 of them...
