I need to make some sort of net to go around a round bale of hay for my horses. My greedy National show horse has impaction coliced on round bales 3 times. So now we are stuck with either paying $9 a bale for square bales that will last me literally ONE DAY, or pulling apart the round bales...
I know they are a delicacy overseas, but have any of you eaten your silkies??
I couldnt even eat a CornishX I got by accident when I bought my first chicks at TSC last year... let alone my Silkie Roo.
BUT, an inquiring mind would like to know, what does it taste like? Is it different than...
I have been considering starting to sell our eggs and some of the extra produce we have grown. In the fall I am doing a huge garden, and then again next spring and fall, etc.
What are the laws in Alabama about selling eggs and produce out of your back yard? Can I market it, like a website...
I am originally from FL and lived there when all this started unfolding. I have been engrossed in the trial since it started almost 3 weeks ago.
Was just wondering if anyone else was following it too.
Defense is doing a TERRIBLE job, and Casey's fake crying makes me sick. Today they had to...
For those of you with horses, the word "Founder" in the title of this thread probably made you shudder. I know when I was growing up Founder was pretty much one of the worst things that could happen to your horse. It was almost always death sentance for the horse.
Not anymore.
I want to...
I let my little red bantam hen (Not sure of Breed, shes a TSC special) Henny Penny hatch two eggs out after she FINALLY became broody. She hatched one of her own and she stole an egg from my australorp hen as well.
Well after 20 days one chick was hatched by 6am, and the other shortly...
These are the best pictures I could get of his comb. There are these little black spots on it, and I cant seem to get it to go away? We live in Southern Alabama, so I'm 99% positive it isnt frostbite, and I've never seen any of the hens picking at him so I dont think its that either... Anyone...
Anyone have a pic of what I could expect with crossing my True rose comb Dominique over my Australorp Hen?
I want to try my luck at incubating some eggs. With the amazing egg production of the Australorp, and the shear amazing size of my Roo, I'm hoping to get huge egg producing machines!
Was...
I am an exclusively breast-feeding, full-time working new(ish, I had Everleigh in December) Mom... and I pump 3 times a day to be able to continue exclusively breast-feeding.
Today... I dropped an entire pumping sessions worth all over my desk, and my clothes.
I Have never felt more...
First, I joined BYC about a year ago when I got my first chicks from TSC. I still get on BYC pretty often, but mainly just to read (and sometimes laugh!) at stories and such.
But, I am in need of some advice, and cant think of a better place to seek help!
I bought an EE hen at an auction...
I have become completely smitten with Wellsummers and I know a guy who has a pair of them. Can someone tell me what they think of this Roo? I'm considering getting some eggs to either put in a bator, or letting a broody hatch.
My little fuzzy wuzzies are all grown up now! BUT I have some questions...
1. Are we some sort of Game bird? We are bantam size, and we are for sure we have a hen and Roo, but what are we?? I think we have greenish/slate legs.
2.I'm a Dominique Roo Right? With the pretty little rose...
I have one chick that takes dust baths in the shavings.
I want to get her some dirt or sand so she can actually TAKE a dust bath. Can I just use the same stuff that you can buy for Chinchillas?
Or is there and "Chicken Dust" I can buy for them?
Yes... I have spoiled chicks.
I have an EE that I "ASSUME" is the same age as the other EE I got at the same time from TSC.
They are about the same size weight wise, but one chick has already started feathering out pretty good on his wings, and the other is NOTHING but down still.
Should I be worried? Both are very...
Can someone shed some light on what kind of chics I have? These came from TSC so I have no idea what they are!
Thanks!
This one is just about completely black
This is my little Napolean, he has feathered feet (or Napoleana, if its a hen)
This one has a few small yellow spots on his head...
Oh my goodness...DH and I were DYING....
They got a little dish of parakeet grit, and I bought the little container of mealworms that are already dead (cause I didnt want to worry about them biting my chicks!) and set the dish in with my babies.
They were a little scared at first, but my...
Soooooo If you've seen my intro post you know DH and I are new chick parents! We had an impulse buy at TSC Monday and now I have a bathtub full of wood shavings and 6 chicks. Since this IS my first little brood, I thought I would make sure I was doing it correctly.
What we have for a brooder...
Well it finally happened...after begging DH to "let" me have some chickens to add to out menagerie, he finally relented!
We stopped my TSC last night to pick up some horsey stuff and they had chics!
We ended up with 2 bantam (which I now know means small, was thinking it was a breed before)...
